Blueflint ‘Stories from Home’ Johnny Rock Records Proper Music Distribution (JOROCK 021) Release Date: Mon 30Th March 2015
Press Release Blueflint ‘Stories from Home’ Johnny Rock Records Proper Music Distribution (JOROCK 021) Release date: Mon 30th March 2015 www.blueflint.org.uk March 2015 saw the release of Blueflint's third album ‘Stories from Home.’ Stories of relationships, parenthood and life in a home town form the thread running through this eclectic yet captivating album. With Paul Savage (King Creosote, From Scotland with Love, Mogwai) in the producer's chair, the album sees the band naturally evolving towards an alt folk flavour. The album's atmospheric opener 'King Of My Apple Tree', takes us through the last days of a relationship, with eery, shimmering guitar layers, before bursting into the joyous 'Little Stranger' underpinned by bouncing banjo rhythms and an infectious guitar hook. The quirky and heartfelt 'I Could Have Done More For You' is driven by rhythmic percussion and sparkling piano passages lending a lightness to the more sorrowful lyrics. The uplifting and anthemic 'This Is A Story' is a beautifully candid account of family love. The primal 'Hawk And Eagle' tips its hat to the band's Americana roots. The album's parting note is the sparse and emotive 'Don't Make A Fool Out Of Me' The sound of Blueflint is defined by the sublime close harmonies of Deborah Arnott and Clare Neilson whose voices are accompanied by a five-piece line-up intertwining banjos, fiddle, piano, electric guitar, double-bass and drums in raw, honest and beautifully-crafted songs, imbued with the power of Paul Savage’s new direction in production for the band. -

THE PROCLAIMERS October 2012
THE PROCLAIMERS October 2012 After completing their last 95-date World tour in summer 2010 Craig and Charlie Reid spent over a year writing, subsequently recording their ninth studio album ‘Like Comedy’ in a Bath studio with producer Steve Evans at the helm. Released in April 2012 to great acclaim by leading independent label Cooking Vinyl. One of The Proclaimers greatest fans, comedian Matt Lucas has made his director's debut on the video for the single 'Spinning Around In The Air' where he wrote a script for a Golden wedding anniversary descending into drunken mayhem and in the process managed to persuade Craig and Charlie for a career first, dressing them up as elderly ladies. 2012 then saw The Proclaimers back out live with a busy summer in UK which included headlining the Hebridean and Big Tent festivals in Scotland, followed by another headline slot at Cambridge Festival, main stage appearances at the V Festivals in England and three shows at the Singapore Grand Prix. Another unique appearance occurred when The Proclaimers appeared on ITV’s Emmerdale – as headliners at Home Farm’s music festival, in an episode marking the beginning of the soap’s 40th birthday celebrations. October/November sees the Proclaimers head out on a six week, 28 date UK tour, with a further 8 dates added in December before finishing the year in style with a Hogmanay concert on the esplanade of Stirling Castle. October also saw filming begin on the movie version of the hugely successful award winning musical drama Sunshine On Leith, featuring songs by The Proclaimers . -

Journal of Interdisciplinary Science Topics Where would The Proclaimers walk to for you? Katherine Davies & Matthew Perkins The Centre for Interdisciplinary Science, University of Leicester 27/03/2018 Abstract The Proclaimers released their no.1 hit song, I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) in 1988, claiming that they would walk 500 miles to “fall down at your door”. In the song, they say this phrase 8 times, totalling 4000 miles of walking. This paper investigates the locations that The Proclaimers could reach, how long it would take them, and the quantities of Scottish delicacies they would need to consume to fuel their journey. It was found that they could reach the major cities of Cairo, New York, and Dubai, with the furthest being Lahore in Pakistan. The journey to Lahore would take them 53.5 days to complete, needing 832.5 bars of deep fried Mars bars, 237.9 kg of haggis, or 249.8 L of Irn-Bru to provide the energy for the journey. Introduction In 1988 The Proclaimers released their hit song, I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) [1]. In the song, they talk about how far they would be willing to walk to “fall down at your door”. Throughout the whole song they mention walking 500 miles several times. Figure 1 – Map of the world, the region Previous papers [2, 3] have worked out the likelihood shaded blue is the places that are located of walking 500 miles and 500 more, without food. The within 4000 miles of Edinburgh, shown by the paper found out that The Proclaimers would lose red dot [4]. -
Radio's War Lifeline News New Creative Radio Formats
1940s Radio’s War With the television service closed for the duration, it was radio’s war and the BBC nearly lost it in the opening skirmishes. Listeners wrote in to complain about the new Home Service, which had replaced the National and Regional programme services. There was criticism of too many organ recitals and public announcements. But the BBC had some secret weapons waiting in the wings. Colonel (‘I don’t mind if I do’) Chinstrap and Mrs (‘Can I do yer now, sir?’) Mopp were just of the two famous characters in Tommy Handley’s It’s That Man Again (ITMA) team. The comedian attracted 16 million listeners each week to the programme. This, and other popular comedy shows like Hi, Gang!, boosted morale during the war. Vera Lynn’s programme Sincerely Yours (dismissed by the BBC Board of Governors with the words: "Popularity noted, but deplored.") won her the title of "Forces’ Sweetheart”. In 1940 the Forces programme was launched for the troops assembling in France. The lighter touch of this new programme was a great success with both the Forces and audiences at home. After the war it was replaced by the Light Programme which was modelled on the Forces Programme. Distinguished correspondents, including Richard Dimbleby, Frank Gillard, Godfrey Talbot and Wynford Vaughan- Thomas, helped to attract millions of listeners every night with War Report, which was heard at the end of the main evening news. We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets…we shall never surrender. -
