7th EUROPEAN RAMSAR MEETING 27 -30 September 2011 TRNAVA- SLOVAKIA TRANSPORT INFORMATION The 7th European Ramsar meeting will take place at the hotel Holiday Inn in Trnava, Slovakia. Trnava is situated in Western Slovakia, about 50 km from Bratislava airport and 120 km from Vienna airport. Trnava is easily accessible by car (close to highway D1). However, if you will travel by public transport, please use the information below to help you in planning your trip to the meeting. FROM BRATISLAVA AIRPORT TO BRATISLAVA MAIN TRAIN STATION Take bus from Bratislava airport to Bratislava train station (Hlavná stanica) Location: Bus stop in front of arrival hall in Bratislava airport Bus number: 61 Schedule: bus goes every 20 minutes each day; get off the bus at the last stop called Hlavná stanica Ticket purchase: available to buy in ticket machine, 60 minute ticket, cost 0,7 EUR (the price might slightly increase until Sept.), estimated time of travelling is 30 minutes FROM BRATISLAVA MAIN TRAIN STATION TO TRNAVA_ BY TRAIN Bratislava has international train connections with neighbouring countries ( such as Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine) and you may choose this way of transport (via Vienna, Prague, Budapest, etc.). [1.] take train from Bratislava train station (Hlavná stanica) to Trnava Ticket purchase: you can buy ticket at ticket counter in the hall of Bratislava train station, it is possible to pay either by cash or by credit card Tickets destination: buy ticket to the destination called TRNAVA, average price about 2 EUR Schedule of trains: depending on your arrival time (see timetable below) Please note: It is recommended to use the express train (IC, R, Zr) for which the journey lasts about 30 minutes; for slow trains (Os) it is about 50 minutes. -

- the oldest free royal city in Slovakia, the synonym „The small Roma“ due to it´s spiritual and cultural tradition Trnava coat of arms Trnava region History 1211 – The first written reference of Trnava 1238 – Ugrian king Belo IV. awarded Trnava the privileges of free royal town and Trnava became the first free royal town on the territory of present Slovakia. Trnava belonged to the biggest towns in the middle Europe in the 13th century. 1347 – The oldest seal of Trnava was justified 1543 – Ostrihom Archbishopric and canonry moved to Trnava and the town became for nearly three hundred years cultural and religious centre of Ugrian empire. 1635 - Cardinal Peter Pázmany established Trnava University, which was the only one university in the Ugrian empire at the time of its activity. 1831 – The first stone Slovak theatre was build in Trnava. 1846 – The first horse railway in Hungary was installed into operation, line Bratislava – Trnava. 1977 – Establishment of the Slovak Clerical Province with the seat in Trnava 1987 – Proclamation of historic centre as the City monumental zone 1992 – Re-opening of Trnava University 1996 – Trnava became the regional seat 2003 – Signing of contract on the building-up the factory PSA – Peugeot Citroën 2003 – The Pope Ján Pavol II. visited Trnava.
