Trat and Provinces in Eastern (4/2/2018)

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and other members of the Cabinet are scheduled to visit the eastern provinces of and Chanthaburi on 5-6 February 2018 for an inspection and a Cabinet retreat.

Trat and Chanthaburi, on the Gulf of Thailand, are famous for delicious fruits, fine beaches, agro- tourism, and eco-tourism, as well as cultural and historical places of interest. They have been listed among the 12 provinces that tourists should not miss when they are in Thailand, according to the countrys tourism promotion campaign.

Trat borders and comprises many big and small islands that are a magnet for tourists, especially Ko Chang, or Elephant Island. Ko Chang has made a name for Trat as a magnificent marine site. It is Thailands second-largest island after Phuket in the South, and it is also being upgraded into a world-class tourist spot like Phuket.

As for Chanthaburi, it is being developed into a fruit hub of Asia, as the province is rich in many tropical fruit varieties of high quality. Major fruit crops that are grown in abundance in this province include durian, rambutan, mangosteen, zalacca, longkong, egg banana, and longan. In 2017, fruit production in Chanthaburi was valued at more than 90 billion baht.

Tropical fruits from Chanthaburi are usually available in the market from April to July. In particular, durian, which is recognized as the \"king of tropical fruits, is grown in abundance in this province.

The Chanthabun Waterfront Community is one of the popular cultural attractions in this province, which has set a vision to become a trading center for organic fruit and one of the worlds most important processing and trading centers for top-quality gemstones.

After the Cabinet retreat at Rambhaibarni Rajabhat University in Chanthaburi on 6 February 2018, the Prime Minister will visit the Makham Agricultural Cooperative in Makham district to observe full-cycle fruit management.
