What is barbershop?
- Barbershop is an all-male a cappella group. - There are 4 spots in a barbershop quartet o Tenor (highest voice) o Lead (Tenor 2/ Sings Melody) o Baritone (Fills in missing harmony in the chords) o Bass (Lowest Voice) - Barbershop sings a mixture of traditional barbershop music, and arrangements of pop songs. - Practices are typically before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the choir room. - Barbershop members sing only 1 to a part. o That means you must be able to sing in a group, where no one else is singing your part.
What are the responsibilities of a barbershop member?
- You will have to practice and memorize your music outside of rehearsal. o Rehearsals are for working on blend, balance, and getting the music performance ready o Practice tracks will be provided for all songs. o Reading music is a plus, but not required - You will be expected to be at all rehearsals
Barbershop performances
- Barbershop performs at all HS choir concerts - There are opportunities for other performances o In the past, the barbershop quartet has performed for the Strawberry Festival, other schools, and on other school’s concerts - This year I am interested in having the barbershop sing the national anthem at several sporting events, perhaps even the Dayton Dragons.
