GOVERNMENT OF INDIA OFFICE OF DIRECTOR GENERAL OF CIVIL AVIATION TECHNICAL CENTRE, OPPOSITE SAFDARJUNG AIRPORT, NEW DELHI CIVIL AVIATION REQUIREMENTS DRAFT SECTION 2 – AIRWORTHINESS SERIES 'O', PART VI F No.11-690/CAR/O-VI/2006/AI (2) ISSUE II DATED __________APRIL 2016 EFFECTIVE: FORTHWITH Subject Manufacture, Registration and Operation of Powered Hang Gliders 1 INTRODUCTION This part of the Civil Airworthiness Requirements specifies requirements relating to, manufacture, registration, maintenance operation and security of powered hang gliders. 1.1 For the purpose of this CAR, a powered hang glider is a vehicle that is used or intended to be used for manual operation in the air by a single occupant/ double 1.1.1 occupant. is used or intended to be used for recreation, sport, or any other purpose approved by 1.1.2 DGCA in writing. 1.1.3 has the maximum AUW less than 275 kgs for a single seater. 1.1.4 has the maximum AUW less than 375 kgs for a double seater. 1.1.5 is not capable of more than 70 knots calibrated air speed at full power in level flight, and 1.1.6 has a power-off stall speed which does not exceed 30 knots calibrated air speed. 2 DEFINITION 2.1 "Acrobatic flight" means manoeuvres intentionally performed by an aircraft involving an abrupt change in its attitude, an abnormal attitude or abnormal variation in speed. 2.2 "Air Traffic Control Clearance" means authorisation by an Air Traffic Control unit for an aircraft to proceed within controlled airspace under specified conditions. 2.3 "Controlled Airport” means an airport at which an Air Traffic Control unit is provided. -

TTrraaiinniinngg GGuuiiddee ffoorr WWeeiigghhtt--SShhiifftt UUllttrraalliigghhttss Safety Information for Instructors and Students EAA Weight-Shift Ultralight Training Guide Version 1.3 ______________________________________________________________________________ Introduction Ultralight aviation in the United States is the most unencumbered opportunity for solo flight in the world. Tremendous freedoms are given to ultralight pilots. However, at the same time there are strict limitations that must be followed. With this freedom, however, come responsibilities to ensure the safety of other individuals in the airspace as well as on the ground. In 1982 the FAA issued Federal Aviation Regulation Part 103, Ultralight Vehicles. With this regulation, the FAA chose to identify ultralights as vehicles and not aircraft. Because they are vehicles and not aircraft, this regulation allows individuals to operate ultralight vehicles without requiring FAA pilot or vehicle certification. Upon publishing Part 103 the FAA said it did not wish to issue pilot certificates for ultralight operators. Instead, the FAA said individuals who want to fly ultralights should participate in industry-established self-regulation and training programs. Since 1983 EAA has maintained programs to support Part 103 and has held an exemption to Part 103 that allowed the operation of 2-place ultralight training vehicles by authorized ultralight flight instructors. In 2004, the FAA passed the sport pilot & light-sport aircraft regulations. One specific purpose of this new rule was to transition 2-place ultralight training vehicles to experimental light-sport aircraft. As a result, after the training exemption expires on 1/31/08 there will no longer be a way to fly a 2-place ultralight to train ultralight pilots. -

Comments FAA REGULATION OF ULTRALIGHT VEHICLES SUDIE THOMPSON A RELATIVELY NEW form of sport and recreational avi- ation has swept the aviation industry - ultralights. Ul- tralights are the first airplanes to have been developed and marketed as "air recreational vehicle[s]." ' Powered ul- tralights are featherweight planes which cost between $2,800 and $7,000.2 Unpowered ultralights are most frequently called hang gliders.' It is estimated that the worldwide total of powered and unpowered ultralights of all types is 25,000,' and one source predicts that the world total of 20,000, pow- ered ultralights will soon double.5 An October, 1981, article places the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) estimate of the number of powered ultralights flying in the United States alone at about 2,500.6 Less than one year later the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and the FAA in- creased their estimates of the number of operational powered and unpowered ultralights (excluding true hang gliders) to 7 10,000. -

EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION O F F I C I A L E A A J U D G I N G S T A N D A R D S M A N U A L June 2017 1 FOREWORD The EAA Official Judging Standards is compiled by the EAA Judging Standards Committee. The EAA Official Judging Standards is the basis of judging at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and other major fly-ins and provides judges and the exhibitor/competitors in each class the rules and criteria, which are used in evaluating the aircraft. The purpose of the EAA Official Judging Standards is to provide uniformity and continuity of judging standards to all concerned especially the judges, fly-in directors, and participants of all major events across the United States and around the world. These EAA Official Judging Standards are continuously monitored and updated to reflect changes as they evolve in all these fields, and changes may be implemented before they are published. EAA Members are encouraged to submit their comments and recommendations per the procedures outlined in the EAA Judging Policy published at the end of this Forward. We look forward to responding to the comments made by EAA members who would like to improve the Judging Standards. The Judging Standards Committee represents the EAA Board of Directors and President in all aspects related to standards and judging at the annual International EAA AirVenture Fly-In and Convention held annually on Wittman Regional Airport, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It is the intent that this manual serves as the standard for judging at EAA events.
