HONOR SOCIETY

The Alpha Eta Honor Society is national organization started on August 31, 1973, was chartered in 1975 and is composed of both students and faculty in the Allied Health Professions. The purpose of the Society is the promotion and recognition of significant scholarship, leadership, and contributions to the Allied Health professions. There are more than 60 active Alpha Eta Chapters affiliated with colleges and universities across the United States. The national organization enjoys a rich tradition of scholarship and service. The motto for the society is “Together we Serve”. As the Honor Society for the School of Allied Health Sciences it is similar to the better-know honor society, which is the honor society to the School of Arts and Sciences.

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Chapter of Alpha Eta began in January 1991 and is comprised of faculty, undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Allied Health Sciences. In 1991, there were 15 members from three departments. Currently members represent nine different programs including: Athletic Training, Audiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Molecular Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Program, Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences and Speech-Language Pathology.

Alpha Eta members are selected based on scholarship, leadership and achievement by their program faculty. No more than 20 percent of a specific program’s graduating class can be inducted into the honor society. Undergraduate students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and graduate students a minimum of GPA of 3.8 to be considered for membership.

The Alpha Eta Honor Society elects officers annually and holds meetings each semester. This past year, the TTUHSC Chapter participated in two service projects – a Thanksgiving party at the Buckner’s Children’s Home and the Special Olympics Spring Games.

I hope each of you will strive to become eligible for membership in Alpha Eta!!!!
