  • ANÁLISIS DE FUCK Y SU TRADUCCIÓN AL ESPAÑOL EN JACKIE BROWN Betlem Soler Pardo Universitat De València
ENTRECULTURAS Número 6. ISSN: 1989-5097. Fecha de publicación: 29-01-2014 TRADUCCIÓN Y DOBLAJE: ANÁLISIS DE FUCK Y SU TRADUCCIÓN AL ESPAÑOL EN JACKIE BROWN Betlem Soler Pardo Universitat de València ABSTRACT Four-letter words are the most obscene and vulgar words in the English language; these refer to parts of the body, bodily functions, human waste, and sex, to cite a few examples. Of all these categories, the one which involves sex is the most obscene of all, and among this group, the most vulgar is fuck (Montagu, 1967; Allan and Burridge, 2006). This paper aims, firstly, to examine a paradigmatic sample of the f-word as it appears in Jackie Brown, a neo noir film directed by Quentin Tarantino; secondly, to carry out research on the categorization of fuck based on the work of McEnery and Xiao (2004); thirdly, to analyse the translation for dubbing of this controversial word into Spanish; and finally, to establish if the presence of fuck in the Spanish version of Jackie Brown has decreased or increased after having carried out the transfer of words.

  • PRODUCTION NOTES “Flesh and Bone” Follows Claire, a Young Ballet
PRODUCTION NOTES “Flesh and Bone” follows Claire, a young ballet dancer with a distinctly troubled past, as she joins the ranks of a prestigious ballet company in New York. The gritty, complex series unflinchingly explores the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world. Claire is a transcendent ballerina with vaulting ambitions, held back by her own self-destructive tendencies; coping mechanisms for the sexual and emotional damage she’s endured. When confronted with the machinations of the company’s mercurial Artistic Director and also an unwelcome visitor from her past, Claire’s inner torments and aspirations drive her on a compelling, unforeseeable journey. It is Moira Walley-Beckett’s first project following her Emmy-award winning tenure as a writer and Executive Producer on “Breaking Bad.” Walley-Beckett partnered with a team of Executive Producers whose backgrounds include premium programming and insider dance connections – former ballet dancer Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs), Kevin Brown (“Roswell”), whose family of former ballet dancers was the basis for the 1977 feature The Turning Point, and Emmy-award winning producer John Melfi, whose extensive credits include “House of Cards,” “The Comeback,” “Nurse Jackie” and the film and TV versions of “Sex and the City.” “Flesh and Bone” is a character-driven drama that “rips the Band‑Aid off the glossy, optical illusion that is ballet. Ballet appears to be ethereal and perfect - and the dancers make it look easy - but the underbelly is pain,” said Walley- Beckett. “It’s dedication. It’s obsession. It’s an addiction. And it is perfect fodder for drama.” “Ballet is the backdrop for the story and many of the characters are involved in that world, but I’m not telling a story about ballet,” Walley-Beckett explains.

  • Something Interesting Is Happening. Harvey Weinstein Was the King of Hollywood
Something interesting is happening. Harvey Weinstein was the king of Hollywood. The King. He was also a bully that used his male power and privilege to harass and abuse women. His behavior was allowed to persist for years. Until now. Someone said something, and then someone else said something. Suddenly, a bigger conversation is happening. Why did it take years, decades, so many women impacted? Why are there so many examples, just like this one, in the worlds of politics, sports, families, and corporate environments? Let's make sure we keep this conversation going. Meet the boys and girls from Maine. Thousands of young people in Maine have worked with Maine Boys to Men and could talk with Harvey about the realities of male power and privilege, what empathy and emotional connectedness with others means, why gender equity in relationships is a good thing for everybody. They could talk with The Men Who Kept Harvey Weinstein Safe about what it means to be an ally; to stand up with women and girls to stop these actions before they become violent. They could explain the power that bystanders have and describe specific ways to disrupt sexist, disrespectful, and abusive behaviors long before they get to this point. In short, Harvey and so many others could learn a lot from the boys and girls from Maine! The Proof. A recent evaluation of our middle school Reducing Sexism and Violence Program (RSVP), led by the University of New Hampshire, demonstrated a significant decrease in the endorsement of attitudes supporting male power and privilege, a self- reported increase in emotional awareness, and a significant increase in the endorsement of gender equity in relationships! Multiple 3rd party evaluations of RSVP for High School, including a two- year study by the Maine Center for Public Health, showed that RSVP changes attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs about sexism, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence.
