Fact Sheet: Vivid at

Vivid Sydney roars to life at Taronga Zoo, shining a light on the wonders of wildlife and endangered animals with Lights for the Wild. This family-friendly, awe-inspiring display of giant animal light sculptures can be seen from 24 May to 15 June, Wednesday to Sunday evenings. at Taronga Zoo will also be open on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday, Monday 10 June.

Vivid Sydney Creative Director, Ignatius Jones said, “Sustainability comes to life during Vivid Sydney at Taronga Zoo – nowhere else is this mission more apparent. Through the fusion of art, light and sound, we can all learn how to shine a better environmental future.”

What: Vivid Sydney at Taronga Zoo Where: Taronga Zoo, Bradley’s Head Rd, Mosman. Entry only via the main upper entrance on Bradley’s Head Road. When: Friday 24 May to Saturday 15 June, Wednesday to Sunday evenings. Plus the Queen’s Birthday public holiday, Monday 10 June.

Highlights include:

 Four brand new installations for a bigger, brighter, bolder Lights for the Wild experience.

 Giant multimedia animal light sculptures, with festival favourites including the majestic Sumatran Rhino and dazzling interactive Chameleon, and new lanterns including playful Sumatran Tiger cubs, a pride of , a and laser gardens.

 Guests are invited to leave the car at home and catch the train to , where a graceful Marine Turtle invites everyone to catch a to Taronga Zoo ferry wharf where connecting buses await your arrival.

 Guests are greeted at our Heritage Archway with a massive multimedia light projection showcasing Taronga’s ten Legacy Species, fragile species across and Sumatra that Taronga has made a commitment to protect.

 Guests step through the projection into the Aussie Bush, where they are greeted with Taronga’s giant iconic symbol, a , and a Corroboree Frog, along other Australian species.

 Visitors meet fierce, friendly and captivating creatures on a journey along an illuminated trail through fragile habitats: Aussie Wild, Blue Wild, Sumatran Wild and African Wild.

 The Taronga Institute of Science and Learning, opened last year by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, becomes home to magnificent Australian native animals the , Regent Honeyeater and Echidna, which take up residence in the forecourt.

 A cast of colourful Australian animals brought to life can be found along the Aussie Bush path, including a Funnel Web Spider, giant Red Back Spiders, Cicadas, a Bilby, epic Goanna and .

 In the Blue Wild, guests will meet the stunning male Weedy Sea-Dragon, with his clutch of eggs.

 The heroes of the Sumatran Wild path are the three playful Sumatran Tiger cubs to celebrate the birth of Taronga’s three cubs Mawar, Tengah Malam and Pemanah, with their watchful mother Kartika found further along the path.

 New Lions will take their pride of place at the beginning of the African Wild, before guests are treated to Taronga Zoo Sydney’s breathtaking, iconic views of the Sydney Harbour foreshore as it shines and sparkles with all the lights of Vivid Sydney

 Taronga Centenary Theatre presents a multi-award winning animated projection in a 270° cinematic experience.

 This year’s Vivid will focus on human connections to the wild highlighting that the wild isn’t always a destination far away from where you are – the ‘wild’ starts in your own backyard. To make a real impact on attitudes towards wildlife, Taronga invites guests to step into a world of scientific discovery and make a pledge to wildlife conservation and be the ‘Light For the Wild.’

 All ticket proceeds go directly back to support Taronga’s work in conservation and wildlife care. Vivid Sydney at Taronga Zoo gives families and big kids a moment in time to consider how we can all become champions for the wild through simple choices like choosing sustainable palm oil and reducing our waste footprint.

 Taronga Conservation Society Australia is carbon-neutral, and Vivid Sydney at Taronga Zoo is 100% green-powered. Taronga Zoo Sydney encourages everyone to

bring last year’s illuminated toys and light wands to reduce our waste footprint. All retail items sold on the night are reusable and designed to be loved again and again.
