1928 – 2021

Graveside Memorial Service Penney Community Penney Farms, A service of thanksgiving for the life and service of Kenneth Abram Hunt Friday, February 12, 2021 – 2:00 PM

Welcome and Opening Prayer Margaret Dodds, Chaplain Obituary Mark Davies

Scriptures: Psalm 23 “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want; He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the of the Lord, forever.”

2 Corinthians 5:1 “For we know that if the earthly house in which we dwell be destroyed, we have a from God, a house not made by human hands, eternal in the heavens.” A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John: Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Have faith in God and faith in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places; otherwise, how could I have told you that I was going to prepare a place for you, and then I shall come back to take you with me, that where I am you also may be. You know the way that leads where I go.” “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.” “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even if he die, shall live; and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” With faith in these words of promise of everlasting life, we now commit these ashes of our loved one Ken to the earth, dust to dust, and ashes to ashes.

Committal Since it has pleased Almighty God to call back his servant Kenneth Hunt from this life to himself, we commit his ashes to the earth, for we are dust and to dust we shall return. The ashes will be scattered among those of others before him, awaiting also those of others of us who will come after. But the Lord Jesus Christ will change our mortal bodies to be like his in glory, for he is risen, the firstborn from the dead. So let us commend our loved one to the Lord that the Lord may embrace him in love and raise him up on the last day.

Prayer: Let us pray: Give rest with your saints, O Christ, to your servant Ken, Where sorrow and pain are no more, Neither sighing, but life everlasting. Grant eternal rest to him, O Lord; And let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the departed, Through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Grant that he may dwell with Christ in paradise, and may come to your heavenly Kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Give peace too, and the calm and quiet of Your Spirit, to these sorrowing hearts, O God. Grateful for the love they shared with Ken, may they live in faith, hope and love with each other until all God’s children are united again at the last day with Christ in his Kingdom. These things we pray in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Benediction Now the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit rest ever and everywhere upon you. Amen. ****** This service today will be preceded by a pre-recorded video made in the Hunt home at Penney Farms with Ken’s beloved Lois, his wife of 30 years, narrating, and Paul Lierman, recording. In retirement the couple enjoyed travelling every year till Ken’s illness in 2020, especially to Japan where Lois’s daughters Mari and Naomi have lived since her earlier marriage and missionary service there. They also spent several months of each year near their Ashland home in New York. The Hunts moved to Penney Retirement Community in 2005. Ken had many enjoyable experiences volunteering with and serving in the Church and Hagen Memory Care Center. He died January 2, 2021 at Community Hospice after a lingering illness. Church friends enjoy a Japanese meal at Ken’s home in New York.

“God’s Eye Is on the Sparrow” Text: Civilla Martin - Music: Charles Gabriel Sung by Nancy Moore

Why should I feel discouraged; why should the shadows come? Why should my heart be lonely, and long for Heaven and Home? When God is ever my portion, my constant Friend will be; God’s eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Let not your heart be troubled; Christ’s tender word I hear. And, resting on God’s goodness, I lose my doubts and fear. Though by the path God leads me, but one step I may see, God’s eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise, When song gives place to sighing, when hope within me dies, I then draw close to my Savior, from care I am set free: God’s eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy; I sing because I’m free; God’s eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
