I BAROCCHISTI

Diego Fasolis, Conductor

The Swiss ensemble I Barocchisti was founded in 1993 by Maestro Diego Fasolis. It is a cultural and musical association whose aim is to foster the study, performance and interpretation of the baroque repertoires while using historical instruments. Through its work the ensemble continues the promo- tional activities of baroque music which was begun in the 1950s by the Società Cameristica di , conducted by Edwin Loher.

I Barocchisti offers rare and unique musical masterpieces from the 17th and 18th centuries. The works are often unknown and have been rediscovered thanks to important research carried out by Maestro Fasolis in collaboration with well-known musicologists.

Virtuosity, rhythm, stylistic accuracy and a strong expressiveness characterize the musical perfor- mances, that are often defined as «Latin». This unique style has been appreciated since the very first appearance of the ensemble in the 90s. The CD recordings of Bach’s works – published by ARTS Music – are therefore considered as reference recordings.

I Barocchisti performs in the most prestigious theatres and concert halls such as the Teatro alla Scala of Milano, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Lincoln Center in New York and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. The ensemble is a welcome guest at the most important classical music fes- tivals in Switzerland and Europe, such as the Ascona Festival and the .

Maurice Steger, Max Emmanuel Cencic, , and are just a few of the famous artists who have collaborated with I Barocchisti and who therefore consider I Barocchisti to be unique in its authenticity and one of the best baroque orchestras in the world. An important example of this is the «Mission» project, in which Cecilia Bartoli and Philippe Jaroussky par- ticipated in the interesting rediscovery of masterpieces by Baroque composer Agostino Steffani. The recording (Decca Records) received the highest award of the music magazine «Musica» and the «Dia- pason D'Or«.

With the Coro della Radiotelevisione Svizzera the ensemble develops concert programs dedicated to works by Banchieri, Beethoven, Buxtehude, Carissimi, Cavalli, Galim-berti, Galuppi, Gluck, Gossec, Hän- del, Monteverdi, Mozart, Sammartini, Scarlatti, Steffani, Paisiello, Pergolesi, Piccinni, Purcell, Rossini, Vivaldi and Bach, among others.

The intense activity of I Barochisti has been recognized by numerous awards such as the «Diapason d'Or», the «Grand Prix du Disque e de l'Audiovisuel», the «Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik», the «ECHO Classic» and several nominations to the Grammy Awards.
