  • Intro Chris Hansen: Your Initial Thoughts on What Has
[intro Chris Hansen: Your initial thoughts on what has surfaced in the last several months on Dahvie Vanity? How do you characterize what you’ve heard and what do you think of it all? Jeffree Star: So, when I quit music, I quit everything, meaning I didn’t talk any of these people ever again, until this date. It wasn’t shocking since Dahvie’s always been horrible. I wanna answer everyone’s questions today. But I was happy that people are finally getting a voice, because back in the day I don’t think a lot of people took things like this serious. And everything that he’s been accused of, people back in the day did not take it as serious as they do now, which is so horrible. So I’m glad that things are really coming to light. At the end of the day, the goal is for him to be sitting in a prison cell, so I’m ready to dive in, you know what I mean? CH: Well, take me back to those days in the mid-to-late 2005, 2010, 2012… what was that music scene like and what was happening in it? JS: It was very punk rock and what I mean by that it was a very crass and offensive culture, whether it was electronic music or dance, we were in this- I called this the “myspace culture” cause that was kind of the timeframe. And things were just very different than how they are now. It was very rock’n’roll, we did a lot of things to be offensive and me and Dahvie first met because I believe he was a fan of me.

  • Marketing of Professional Women's Soccer in the United States
MARKETING OF PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S SOCCER IN THE UNITED STATES THROUGH FEMINIST THEORIES by CHRISTOPHER HENDERSON (Under the Direction of James J. Zhang) ABSTRACT Despite the success of the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT), two women’s soccer leagues have quickly failed in the U.S. This doctoral dissertation examines the past and present of the marketing of professional women’s soccer in the United States emphasizing feminist themes to fulfill three objectives: (a) to critically examine the history of the marketing of women’s soccer in the United States to identify and gain a better comprehension of changes in theory and practice of marketing in women’s soccer in the U.S. over time; (b) to identify and explain the use of three feminist themes in the marketing of women’s soccer, specifically in the NWSL; and (c) to analyze the impact of these three feminist themes on the related marketing strategies used within in the NWSL in an effort to build a framework while also developing recommendations for marketing practitioners for the promotion and marketing of professional women’s soccer in the United States. The historical analysis segment revealed that the failure of the first two professional women’s soccer leagues in the United States were largely a result of poor resource allocation and an inability to connect with and retain fans, the media, and sponsors. The Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) burned through capital at an unsustainable rate and was unable to maintain the excitement of the 1999 Women’s World Cup, leading to microscopic television ratings and perennially falling attendance.

Tuned Souls: The Role of Music in the Lives of Homeless Young People Jill P. Woelfer A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Washington 2014 Reading Committee: David Hendry, Chair Susan Kemp Batya Friedman Julie A. Hersberger Program Authorized to Offer Degree: The Information School ©Copyright 2014 Jill P. Woelfer University of Washington Abstract Tuned Souls: The Role of Music is the Lives of Homeless Young People Jill P. Woelfer Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Associate Professor, David G. Hendry The Information School Although music is considered to be an important part of adolescence and young adulthood, little is known about music and homeless youth. Accordingly, this dissertation research investigated the role of music in the lives of homeless young people, aged 15-25. The study was conducted in Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia and engaged homeless young people (n=202) and service providers staff who work at agencies that provide support for homeless young people (n=24). Homeless young people completed surveys (n=202), design activities, which included drawing and story writing (n=149), and semi-structured interviews (n=40). Service providers completed semi-structured interviews (n=24). Data analysis included descriptive analysis of survey data and qualitative coding of the design activities and interview responses. Findings indicated that music was an important part of everyday life for homeless young people, who listened to music daily (98%), owned music players (89%), and had wide- ranging and eclectic tastes in music which did not vary based on location.
