DESCRIPTION Project done to increase the capacity of the existing urban wastewater treatment plant in the village of AGULO, in the Gomera island (Canary Islands), realised in 2007-2009, given the need of increasing the treatment capacity of the existing plant due to significant and seasonal variations of the flow, with the special characteristic of having a small surface available in a place with a difficult access.

DESCRIPTION Project done to increase the capacity of the existing wastewater treatment plant in the Municipality of Puigpunyent , Palma de Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, carried out in 2006-2007. • This is the second system designed by HERA with the MBR technology for ABAQUA company, with the purpose of increasing the capacity of the existing sewage plant. • The feasibility for the extension of the facility without affecting the normal operation of the plant was the reason to apply this technology for this site. • The need for land is limited and few civil engineering requirement are needed: only the module BRM needs foundations. • The new facility also provides high quality water output, ready to be reused for irrigation of a next golf course.

Technology applied for the treatment: Submerged Membranes Bio Reactor(BRM), given the interest of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) for the BRM technology that offers the possibility of water reuse.

• Services provided: • Construction of the new plant, without demolition of the existing tanks. • Installation and commissioning of the MBR reactor, where the membrane modules were placed in portable tanks, located by side of the old sewage treatment plant. • Perfect disinfection of the effluent for reuse as irrigation water, without need of tertiary treatment. • Adaptation to significant flow changes.

The reasons of the Catalan Water Agency to install the MRB membrane reactor were the need to build "a compact and fast plant" capable of accommodating the process of removing nutrients (anaerobic and aerobic reactors), do not stop the operation of the existing plant during construction, to be able to reuse the effluent with an output quality equivalent to that of one tertiary system, and a cheap maintenance service. • Capacity: 35,000 m³/ day , (175,000 equivalent inhabitants) Services provided: Design and supply of the membrane modules .
