FACILITY Penn State’s aquatics complex is one of the most complete indoor-outdoor facilities in the East. McCoy Natatorium has been the home of Nittany Lion swimming and diving since 1969, and was named after Ernest B. McCoy in 1980. McCoy served from 1952-70 as Penn State’s Director of Athletics and Dean of the College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Locker room and office renovations in the summer of 1988 served to re-design and taste - fully upgrade the McCoy complex. In addition, the fitness loft, with over 40 pieces of exercise equipment, was installed in 1990. McCoy’s locker rooms again received a face-lift in the summer of 2004. HEAD COACH BILL DORENKOTT Dorenkott’s first three seasons. The Nittany Lions have scored points in the Head Coach NCAA Championships in three of his six seasons at the helm of the program and have had individual qualifiers in each of his six seasons, highlighted by 10 in his first season as head coach and the nine last year. Bill Dorenkott's accomplishments as a collegiate coach have helped him attract many of the nation's top swimmers to Penn State. He has coached 27 different athletes to Big Ten Championships in a total of 32 events. The women’s team also has enjoyed success at the NCAA Championships under the direction of Dorenkott. They have scored points and thereby placed in eight of the nine years under Dorenkott. They have fin - ished in the top 20 in three of the past four years and have qualified 12 or more individuals for the NCAA meet in four of the last six seasons. Penn State qualified 12 for NCAA’s in 2006, the fifth-most student-athletes of any school in the country. Last year’s 10 NCAA qualifiers was tied for the most of any school in the Big Ten and tied for the 10th most of the 56 schools that sent at least one qualifier to NCAA’s. Penn State has now had at least 10 NCAA qualifiers on the women’s side for four straight years. Before he became head coach of the Penn State women's team, the Nittany Lions had only been able to finish as high as fourth in the Big Ten Championships. Overall, in his nine seasons at the helm, the Nittany Lions have finished in the top five in the Big Ten Championships all nine times, including seven top three finishes, which include the three championships, two second place finishes, and two third places.

His 1995 men's team finished sixth at NCAAs after a 9-2 dual meet season, and the women placed 11th. While at Ashland, Dorenkott was the 1993- 94 and 1994-95 Penn-Ohio Conference Women's Swimming Coach of the Year and the 1994-95 Penn-Ohio Conference Men's Swimming Coach of the Year. Dee Dlugonski, a former All-American swimmer at Penn State, enters her second year as an assistant coach at her alma mater. She returned to Penn State last year after one year away from Happy Valley to take over for for - mer assistant Nittaya Klim, who accepted the job of head women’s swim - ming coach at the University of Akron. Dlugonski assists with all areas of the program, including individual work - outs and recruiting. Prior to returning to Penn State, she spent a year as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Connecticut. The Huskies had a dual meet record of 5-2-1 and also finished first at the Terrapin Cup and sixth at the Big East Championships during her season at UConn. An NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient and a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year award in 2005, Dlugonski was also a 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American and was a four-time Academic All- America selection by the College Swimming Coaches Association (CSCAA). She was also a three-time winner of the Ellen Perry Academic Achievement Award, which is given annually to the student-athlete that has attained the highest level of academic excellence through the season, and a two-time winner of the Jerome Weinstein Coaches’ Award. Just as impressive in the pool as she was in the classroom during her career, Dlugonski holds six school records and a Big Ten record. She holds the school record in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle and was a part of four relay teams that currently hold school records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays. Jon Larson enters his second year as an assistant coach with the Nittany Lion swimming program, however, he has been associated with Penn State as well as the local area swimming scene for the last 11 years. This is Larson’s first collegiate coaching job since his undergraduate days. However, he brings a wealth of experience with him to the Nittany Lions. In addition to his coaching duties with Penn State, he is also the head coach of Big Cat Aquatics, the club swimming program run out of McCoy Natatorium. Larson has worked with swimmers from elementary school age up through collegiate swimmers from the local area. Big Cat Aquatics, a USA Swimming club team that serves youth within a 50-mile radius of the Penn State campus, uses McCoy Natatorium for training and has provided a training environment for several current Penn State swimmers during their prep days. Among current Penn State swimmers that Larson has coached through his role with Big Cat Aquatics are Molly Crispell, Kailey Morris, Jon Cochrane, Alan Erdley and Ben Ryan. Prior to taking the assistant position at Penn State, Larson served as the McCoy Natatorium Pool Coordinator for 10 years in addition to his role as the head coach of Big Cat Aquatics, and has worked out of the same office suite that the swimming and diving programs are based. Among his duties were supervising of the staff at McCoy, assisting in the scheduling of all events at the Natatorium, supervising all aquatic programs being held at McCoy, acting as the facility host for major competitions held at McCoy, and instructing exercise sport science classes as well as at Penn State sports camps. Prior to coming to the State College area, Larson served as head coach and program director of the Coronado Navy Swim Association in Coronado, Calif. from 1989-96.
