Sicher ist, dass Australien ein Land der Gegen- sätze ist – von der staubigen Wüste des Roten Zentrums über traumhafte Strände an der Ostküste bis hin zu üppigen Regenwäldern im Top End bietet das Land eine Viel- zahl an Landschaften, die nur darauf warten entdeckt zu werden. Neuseeland Die beiden kleinen Inseln östlich von Australien, die zehnmal mehr Schafe als Menschen beheimaten – das ist Neuseeland. So unterschiedlich die beiden Inseln sind – tropische Regenwälder und hohe vulkanische Aktivität im Norden, hochaufragende Gletscher und tiefblaue Gebirgsseen im Süden – so unterschiedlich sind auch die Möglichkeiten, Neuseeland zu bereisen und das Land kennenzulernen. Neuseeland bietet den großen Vorteil, dass die vielen unterschiedlichen Landschaftsformen und Ökosysteme so nahe beieinander liegen, dass sie innerhalb kurzer Zeit bereist werden können, sei es auf eigene Faust mit einem Mietwagen oder Wohnmobil und Hotelübernachtungen oder auf einer organisierten Tour. Zum Titelbild: Der Whitehaven Beach befindet sich im Archipel der Whitsunday Islands, die aus 74 einzelnen Inseln bestehen und im Herzen des Great Barrier Reef liegen. Die Gewässer der Whitsundays gelten aufgrund ihrer perfek- ten Lage – geschützt vom Great Barrier Reef und den Inseln – als eines der besten Segelreviere der Welt. Ausgangspunkt für Segeltörns in den Whitsundays ist Airlie Beach am australischen Festland – etwa 600 km südlich von Cairns und 1100 km nördlich von Brisbane. Der Whitehaven Beach liegt auf Whitsunday Island. Er ist mit einem Quarzgehalt von 99% einer der weißesten Strände der Welt und wurde schön mehrfach als schönster Strand Australiens ausgezeichnet. Viele Tagesausflüge und mehrtägige Segeltörns haben einen Halt an diesem wunderschönen Strand im Programm. Die Gezeiten sorgen dafür, dass der Strand vom Hill Inlet aus jeden Tag anders aussieht.
