Debate is a great way to gain knowledge about current events, as well as improve many important skills like researching and public speaking. All freshman are welcome Boys JV Basketball - Any 9th or 10th grader who is interested in trying out for the boys JV Basketball team this year must submit their medical and parental consent forms to Mr. Rubin in room 1C1 by Monday, October 7th. Check the BTHS website for more information. No forms will be accepted past Monday, October 7th. Boys' Soccer - Congratulations to the boys soccer team for another great week of games. They defeated Lincoln Hs with a score of 8-0 and then Jefferson Hs with a score of 4-0 to make there record 4-0. Good luck this week boys! OTHER OPPORTUNITIES Sophie Davis Program of Biomedical Education in CUNY School of Medicine Health Professionals Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) 2019-2020. HPREP is a 14 session pre-college enrichment program that helps high school students understand what life is like in medical school and in health professions. The program exposes high school students to activities related to medicine and teaches students about specific medical career fields and the steps needed to become a physician or any other health care provider. The curriculum includes trips to the anatomy lab (where students will be able to observe real cadavers), lectures from medical school professors, clinical skills demonstrations, mentoring, and problem based learning workshops. Students had the opportunity to hear from leaders in the field of activism ranging from residents, nurses, and attendings, to public health officials.     co bac –fre to e 2015 New York State Dean’s List EXECUTIVE SUMMARY More than 4 out of 10 New York colleges now prohibit smoking on campus Smoke-free (SF) and tobacco-free (TF) campus policies are a growing trend across the country and in New York State. A SF campus policy means no smoking is allowed anywhere on college property or in college vehicles. In contrast, a TF campus policy prohibits all forms of tobacco use, anywhere on college property and in college-owned vehicles, including smokeless forms of tobacco, and in most cases, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). Evidence suggests that short-term exposure to secondhand smoke, even outdoors, puts people at increased risk, especially those with pre-existing cardiac and pulmonary illness.3 In addition to reducing exposure to secondhand smoke, SF and TF campus policies help to reduce the initiation of tobacco use among young people and assist youths and adults who are trying to quit smoking.4 Between July 2014 and June 2015, electronic surveys were sent to college administrators at 201 colleges and universities in New York State and analyzed to ascertain current tobacco use policy. High response rates were achieved (83%). If no information was provided by a college, data were obtained via the college’s website. Criteria were then applied to these data to generate a grade for each college. For colleges reporting a SF or TF policy, an additional compliance score was calculated based on several questions in the survey, to produce a plus or a minus grade. The grades and results are as
