    Cast Biographies RILEY KEOUGH (Christine Reade) Riley Keough, 26, is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. At the age of 12, she appeared in her first campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and at the age of 15 she ignited a media firestorm when she walked the runway for Christian Dior. From a young age, Riley wanted to explore her talents within the film industry, and by the age of 19 she dedicated herself to developing her acting craft for the camera. In 2010, she made her big-screen debut as Marie Currie in The Runaways starring opposite Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. People took notice; shortly thereafter, she starred alongside Orlando Bloom in The Good Doctor, directed by Lance Daly. Riley’s memorable work in the film, which premiered at the Tribeca film festival in 2010, earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Milan International Film Festival in 2012. Riley’s talents landed her a title-lead as Jack in Bradley Rust Gray’s werewolf flick Jack and Diane. She also appeared alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which grossed nearly $167 million worldwide. Further in 2011, she completed work on director Nick Cassavetes’ film Yellow, starring alongside Sienna Miller, Melanie Griffith and Ray Liota, as well as the Xan Cassavetes film Kiss of the Damned. As her camera talent evolves alongside her creative growth, so do the roles she is meant to play.     Journal of American Studies of Turkey 25 (2007) : 99-101 Into the Wild (Sean Penn 2007) Mark Bousquet Hollywood has had a long love affair with the American landscape. Typically focused on the open expanses of the American West (evidenced most prominently in the westerns of John Ford, Clint Eastwood, and Kevin Costner), directors have seemingly operated on the principle that intrinsic to any story set against nature is to highlight the bigness and beauty of the land. Sean Penn’s approach (seen through the cinematography of Eric Gautier) to shooting the landscape in Into the Wild operates largely antithetically to the western. Instead of focusing on the largeness of the American wilderness, Penn’s approach owes a stylistic debt to Terence Malick (whom Penn worked with on The Thin Red Line 1998), crafting an intimate relationship with the natural world. Into the Wild is an excellent and effective adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s book by the same name, relating the true journey of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch), who left American civilization behind to seek a romanticized relationship to the wilderness of his literary heroes Jack London and Henry David Thoreau. After graduating from Emory University, McCandless donates the bulk of his savings ($24,000) to Oxfam America and severs his ties with civilization, both official (destroying his identification and credit cards) and personal (deliberately misleading his family about his plans). Yoshi Oida est un acteur hors du commun. Né à Kobe en 1933, il a dédié sa vie aux théâtres du monde entier, en ayant pour seule ligne de conduite de renoncer à la facilité. Son apprentissage commence au Japon : il est initié au théâtre Nô par les plus grands maîtres de l’école Okura. De cette expérience, il retirera l’importance de l’harmonie entre tous les éléments qui constituent l’outil principal du comédien : son corps. Puis en 1968 Yoshi Oida est invité à Paris par Jean-Louis Barrault pour travailler avec Peter Brook. Il fonde avec ce dernier le Centre International de Recherche Théâtrale (CIRT). Au contact du « magicien du théâtre européen », il apprend que le comédien doit être « un vent léger, qui devenant de plus en plus fort, doit allumer une flamme et la faire grandir ». Aux côtés du maître, il apprend également la mise en scène, métier qui l’occupe énormément aujourd’hui. Il sillonne alors le monde à la recherche de la maîtrise théâtrale la plus complète, apprenant les jeux Africains, Indien, Persan. Il s’interroge sur la frontière entre la scène et la vie de tous les jours : « Qu’ai-je appris sur la scène qui pourrait m’aider à vivre ma vie d’homme ordinaire ? ».
