Usa Freestyle Skiing Olympic History USA FREESTYLE SKIING OLYMPIC HISTORY US Olympic History: Freestyle skiing, one of the so-called extreme sports, débuted as a medal sport in 1992 with moguls competition at Albertville, although it had been a demonstration sport at Calgary in 1988, with three events – moguls, aeriels, and the no-longer contested ballet, or acroski. Since then the United States has dominated the sport at the Winter Olympics, winning the most medals and gold medals overall, the most medals and gold medals by men, and the most gold medals by women. The US has won medals in moguls and aeriels for men and women, but did not win any medals in skiier-cross, a relatively new event, at its début in Vancouver in 2010 – in fact, there were no US women entered in that event in 2010. There will be two new events on the program at Sochi – halfpipe and slopestyle. [00:00:42] Just in this past week we have gotten questions from young listeners in Taiwan, England, Prague in the Czech Republic, New Delhi India and lots and lots of states like Montana, Minnesota, Florida, Arizona, Vermont. Melody, who works on the show with me, and I listen to every single one of your questions and I wish someone would figure out for me how to make there be more hours in the day or how I could clone myself because we would really love to be able to answer all of your questions in our episodes. But even if we did an episode every day we wouldn't be able to cover all of your great questions. So until scientists come up with a way to change the nature of time we can't answer every single one we get. But please know how much joy it brings us to hear your wonderful voices and your really terrific questions. You are a very curious connected and fantastic bunch of kids. This week we're going to tackle something very timely as we make this episode.

USSTF Board of Trustees' Meeting The Sonnenalp, Vail, Colorado December 3-7, 2014 Welcome Letter December 1, 2014 I would like to welcome you to the annual U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation Board of Trustees' meeting in Vail/Beaver Creek. We have an exciting few days ahead, including the Audi Birds of Prey race this week. After a very successful Olympic year, our athletes spent the summer training at camps around the world in preparation for the FIS Nordic World Championships in Falun, SWE, the FIS Freestyle and Snowboarding World Championships in Kreischberg, AUT and the FIS Alpine World Championships right here in Vail/Beaver Creek. The 2015 season started off on a high note with Mikaela Shiffrin’s GS win at the World Cup opener in Soelden. We had a great turn out at the Nature Valley First Tracks for the U.S. Alpine Ski Team naming at Copper Mountain. Our Foundation Officers, my staff and I are continuing to evolve the format of the board meeting to encourage further involvement, input and discussion from our board members. Similar to the summer meeting format, the chairs of each standing committee will be reporting on the work done in their areas of leadership. Additionally, the working groups created to address questions concerning "direct to athlete" as well as sport-specific giving have been meeting regularly and will report their conclusions. The meeting will also include an executive session designed to allow you to ask me questions in a confidential and privileged setting. I hope you will take this opportunity to engage with us.

COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Freestyle Skiing - Overview Freestyle Skiing is a game that needs perfect balance of body and mind while taking a jump from the inrun to the maximum possible height to win. This also includes performing various types of flips and twists or other stunts depending on the category. Though the game seems difficult by the looks of it, one can become an expert with perfect coaching and guidance. This tutorial will guide you in understanding the basic mechanics. The rider (player) has to sail on an ice surface with the help of jumping skis on a ramp like structure. The aim is to perform aerial flip flops and spins. To add to the difficulty level, sliding rails and boxes are also used. The match is played in both men and women category. History Inception of this adventurous journey started in Norway in year 1808, when Ole Rye jumped over a height of 9.5 metres. The world’s 1st ski jumping competition was held at Ofte, Norway in the year 1866. Sondre Norheim won that championship and he was believed to be the father of modern ski jumping. After World War 1, a new technique was developed popularly known as Kongsberger Technique that helped Sepp Bradl of Austria in achieving a 101 metre jump in 1936.
