  • Annual Report 2014 Fueling the LGBT Movement Letter from the Board Chair & Executive Director
Annual Report 2014 Fueling the LGBT Movement Letter from the Board Chair & Executive Director This report is about 2014. Yet as this letter is written in 2015, it’s impossible not to start by recognizing the spectacular recent progress of the movement for the rights and dignity of LGBT people: the move to eliminate the ban on transgender people serving in the military; the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruling that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is illegal; and, of course, the grand marriage victory at the Supreme Court. As we celebrate this dramatic progress, we all know that it comes out of the passion and sacrifices of countless people and the unflagging work of thousands of nonprofit groups, large and small. A relative few make headlines or become well known, but it is the many – not just the few – who make social change happen. These triumphs belong to all of us. Horizons Foundation has had the great privilege of not only being part of many of these historic events, but helping to shape and fuel them. The foundation has been there early. It’s been there often. It’s been there again and again and again. Our first grant for work on LGBT marriage equality, for example, goes back nearly two decades. Our first grant in support of transgender rights happened nearly as long ago. Horizons made the first grant anywhere to fight HIV. As this report relates, the year 2014 – the foundation’s 34th year – built on this powerful legacy. We are especially glad to share the remarkable list of grants made to organizations in every part of the LGBT community, as well as indicators of strong financial growth.

PhDr. Marek Sedláček, Ph.D. Brno 2019 Anotace Název práce: Vývoj nejposlouchanějších skladeb na serveru YouTube.com mezi roky 2014 a 2018 Title: Evolution of the most listened compositions on YouTube.com between 2014 and 2018 Cílem této práce je analyzovat devatenáct nejposlouchanějších skladeb na serveru YouTube.com, které byly uploadovány mezi daty 1. 7. 2016 a 1. 7. 2018. The goal of this thesis is to analyze nineteen of the most listened compositions on YouTube.com, which were uploaded between 1. 7. 2016 and 1. 7. 2018. The outcomes of the analysis are then compared with the results of similar analysis, which was developed in the author´s bachelor thesis and was focused on the most listened compositions on the same server between 2014 and 2016. The thesis examines musical character of the chosen compositions, but it is also focused on their interprets and genres. The final part of the thesis shows the changes between these aspects during the mentioned time period.

Journal of Literature and Art Studies, January 2021, Vol. 11, No. 1, 26-32 doi: 10.17265/2159-5836/2021.01.004 D DAVID PUBLISHING The Rebel Madame: Madonna’s Postmodern Revolution Diego Santos Vieira de Jesus ESPM-Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil The aim is to examine Madonna’s revolution regarding gender, sexuality, politics, and religion with the focus on her songs, videos, and live performances. The main argument indicates that Madonna has used postmodern strategies of representation to challenge the foundational truths of sex and gender, promote gender deconstruction and sexual multiplicity, create political sites of resistance, question the Catholic dissociation between the physical and the divine, and bring visual and musical influences from multiple cultures and marginalized identities.
