Our fellow Rotarian, Michael Ballam, is bringing his talented performers from Logan who are starring in his now famous Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater. This season features Man of La Mancha with Michael Ballam in the starring role. Other produc- tions include How to Succeed in Business, La Boheme, and Carousel. The season runs July 8 through August 8 in Logan, Utah. Remember to make reservations for your guest.

Salt Lake City Rotary Club and UPB Tree Planting

In an event sponsored by the Parks & Environment Committee, the Salt Lake City Rotary Club and Utah Paper Box partnered with Tree Utah to plant some large trees at Big Cottonwood Regional Park on Saturday, May 16.

Spread the Word and Save a Tree! by Teri Jensen

During our tree planting, the arborist asked us to spread the word about bird houses. Although the people hanging the houses are well intentioned, the houses popping up in our SLC parks are killing the trees. He said there are proper ways to build and hang a bird house so it does not kill the tree. Those instructions can be found on the County and State Parks websites. The style in this photo is not it. It is nailed directly to the tree through all of the bark layers and the hole is too big to actually attract birds. He said birds are better off to build their own nests in the park trees. 2

I am honored to be joining the Salt Lake Rotary Club. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City and could not think of a better place to call my home. I attended the University of Utah and I am currently working at Rowland Hall as the Director of Institutional Advancement. I attended Rowland Hall for 16 years as a student and am thrilled to be working at the school that helped shape me into the person I am today.

I serve on the Utah Society of Fund Raisers Board, I am a member of the Junior League of Salt Lake City, and recently joined the Young Alumni Board at the University of Utah.

Brady Allred

Executive & Artistic Director Salt Lake Choral Artists, Salt Lake Vocal Artists

Born in Provo, Utah, but raised in Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Memphis, Tennessee. Attended Overton High School of the Creative and Performing Arts in Memphis, studied Music Theory & Composition and Flute Performance at Brigham Young University; married Soprano, Carol Ann Goodwin in Salt Lake City after serving an LDS Mission in the England Birmingham Mission.

Attended graduate school at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY earning Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Conducting.

Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and also the University of Utah.

Presently Artistic Director and Conductor of the Salt Lake Choral Artists, an organization of seven choirs with over 300 singers, a community education program, Summer Choral Institute, full concert series, international tours, commissions and recordings.

We have four daughters who are all involved in the arts.

I am pleased to finally be an official member of Rotary after being involved in numerous projects and performances with the Salt Lake Club in the past, including the International Convention in SLC. 4 Club 24 Summer Social

Club 24 Rotarians Out in the World

Club President Mike Deputy recently visited Morocco. Here he is meeting participants in one of Club 24's Global Grant projects, presenting a gift book from Salt Lake City to President Jeanne Maridet of Rotary Club Marrakech Menara, and astride and all smiles (except for the camel) for a short night ride.

Dear Club 24,

Please know that John Bennion, a great Rotary member of the wonderful Salt Lake Rotary Club has agreed to serve on the District 5420 Foundation Committee as Chair of District Scholarship Grants and Global Scholarship Grants. This position is new for our district. John will have the opportunity to develop the format and structure to facilitate these types of scholarships in the district. We are thrilled that a Rotarian of John's stature has so graciously agreed to help and develop our foundation committee functions in the area of education. He is perfect for this position. We are thankful to the Salt Lake Rotary Club for letting us use such an inspirational Rotarian.

Greetings. I am happy to report that your bank transfer arrived on 15 May for an amount of 950,599 NPR Nepali Rupees (9,300 $USD).

We have prepared a report on how we are providing assistance to those affected by the earthquake - it is attached herewith. We will continue to send reports until all of the money we have received is fully spent. We will also send an acknowledgement by the post (that should reach you eventually).
