Comprising more than 3,000 lots, the sale is headlined by a superb range of Roman coins from the estate of discerning Ancients collector Anthony Howell. Highlighted by a 3rd century BC Aes Grave As, Howell’s collection included a strong run of Imperial coins from the 1st to 4th centuries AD. Featuring gold aurei of Augustus and Marcus Aurelius, this impressive array also encompassed high-grade silver denarii of the rarest of the Twelve Caesars – Galba, Otho and Vitellius. The sale is also distinguished by more than 1,250 decimal coin lots, and a typically impressive array of Australian predecimal coins – headlined by an extremely rare 1930 Penny in Very Fine, as well as a beautiful, rare, glossy 1947 Perth Penny Proof FDC. As always, our latest public auction is also notable for the variety of the material on offer. There’s an excellent mix of Australian predecimal and decimal notes, world coins and banknotes, stamps and Trade Tokens – including an extremely rare Australian Steam Navigation Company (ASNC) Token! Although room-bidding and viewing will be subject to our strict adherence to COVID-safe protocols, our popular Live Auction Platform will be up and running again in Sale 340. The sale will be followed by two more auctions in 2021, so if you have material you would like to consign, it’s not too late to be part of the action! Our next sale is scheduled for August, and consignments will be accepted until 23 June 2021. For now though, I trust you will savour the desirable diversity of delights found in Sale 340, and enjoy your collecting! NARRATIONS, MEMORY, CONTEXTS the conference celebrating the centenary of the Treaty of Trianon Poznan, 8–9 October 2020. The conference will be held online. ABSTRACTS DR HAB . GRZEBORZ BUBAK Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Institute of Linguistics and Translation Studies (Uniwersytet Jagielloński, Instytut Językoznawstwa i Przekładoznawstwa, Kraków ) The Treaty of Trianon and its later consequences in Hungarian fictional film (Traktat z Trianon i jego późniejsze konsekwencje w węgierskim filmie fabularnym ) Historical motifs have marked their presence in Hungarian film almost since the very beginning, as a result of a succession of dramatic events affecting a generation after generation of Hungarians. Filmmakers drew upon the past whenever the opportunity arose. Sometimes it was revisiting the painful experiences of the past or accounting for painful memories. At other times it was a historical narrative never brought before an audience before, for political reasons. Lastly, at times it was the tide of the moment, such as the round anniversary of a historical event. The revolution of 1956, erased by Kádár from the collective memory, the years of Stalinist terror, the sensitive Jewish issue and recently the fates of former prisoners of war returning from the USSR have all found their place in Hungarian film. Is this also the case with topics relating to the 1920 Treaty of Trianon and its traumatizing provisions regarded as one of the most painful dates in Hungarian history? Neither the tragic experience handed down through generations nor the sense of injustice are going away. This text will attempt to answer the question of whether elements relating to Trianon and its consequences for the Hungarian state can be found in Hungarian film productions.

  • “Come on Lads”
“COME ON LADS” ON “COME “COME ON LADS” Old Wesley Collegians and the Gallipoli Campaign Philip J Powell Philip J Powell FOREWORD Congratulations, Philip Powell, for producing this short history. It brings to life the experiences of many Old Boys who died at Gallipoli and some who survived, only to be fatally wounded in the trenches or no-man’s land of the western front. Wesley annually honoured these names, even after the Second World War was over. The silence in Adamson Hall as name after name was read aloud, almost like a slow drum beat, is still in the mind, some seventy or more years later. The messages written by these young men, or about them, are evocative. Even the more humdrum and everyday letters capture, above the noise and tension, the courage. It is as if the soldiers, though dead, are alive. Geoffrey Blainey AC (OW1947) Front cover image: Anzac Cove - 1915 Australian War Memorial P10505.001 First published March 2015. I note, with considerable satisfaction, the detail presented by the Chief of the Defence Force, Chief of Navy, Maritime Commander and Commander, Australian Naval Aviation Group in previous editions of Slipstream. The picture they were able to present demonstrates the significant enhancements currently being made to the Fleet Air Arm - in terms of equipment and facilities. We are indeed fortunate to have such an expansion of capabilities in /" 0 "" I C2I a time of relative constraint elsewhere in Defence. I would like to focus my comments on the personnel aspects of this expansion , for without the right people, new equipment and facilities are useless . I have to say we are being challenged at the moment to find and retain people for our demanding profession. This is a reflection of the changes in our society. At a recent conference I heard the Warrant Officer of the Navy describe the contemporary sailor.
