The track also gives the College the ability to host large meets. Scotty Wood Stadium was the site of the 2001 and 2005 Centennial Confer- ence Championships, with the Muhlenberg women claiming their first confer- ence title on their home track in 2005. Muhlenberg’s facility is named for two prominent figures in the school’s athletic history. The stadium honors the late Milton W. “Scotty” Wood for his many years of support and service to the College and its scholar athletes. He began Wood Dining Services, now prominent in the food service industry, in 1947 by feed- ing Muhlenberg basketball players. The Mules’ annual tipoff basketball tourna- ment is also named in his honor. The field honors Frank Marino, one of the most beloved coaches in school history. The second-winningest coach in Mule football history with a 54-40-6 record from 1970-1980 and the 1976 Middle Atlantic Conference coach of the year, Marino served the athletic department in numerous other capacities during his 34-year association with the College, earning the respect, loyalty and admiration of hundreds of young men and women.

John Deitrich Field House Indoor Track

Constructed 2004

The John Deitrich Field House, constructed in 1982, was resurfaced in 2004. The track now features the same polyurethane surface as the outdoor track, enabling the Mules to train harder without worrying about the injuries that cropped up from running on the previous surface. The teams combined to break 16 school records in their first season with the new indoor track, and both finished second at the Centennial Conference Championships. A jump pit and a pole vault box were also added, giving the teams the op- portunity to host limited indoor meets. Every year, Muhlenberg hosts a multi- team invitational and a pentathlon.
