Harada wants to make the world a better place - as long as it's under his control! Mak is a psiot in the Valiant Universe. She is a master of martial arts and a member of the Harada Foundation. Obadiah Archer was raised and sheltered from the world and trained his entire life to kill "He who is not to be named" who happens to be Armstrong. Now, the two travel the world to solve mysteries and take down secret societies. He is a Psiot with the ability of perception and a skilled martial artist. Aram Anni Pada, aka Armstrong, is Bloodshot: H.A.R.D. Corps Volume 4: H.A.R.D. Corps of the eternal brothers in the Valiant Universe and an immortal. He travels the world with his buddy Archer to take down the evil Sect. After being relieved of his duties, he now leads The Specialists. He is a Telestatic-Kinetic which allows him to control electricity. Gamma is the main overseer of the Project Rising Spirit Harbinger nursery.     Valiant’s Anti-Villains: Virtues and Vices Heroes. Antiheroes. Villains. In the Golden Age of comics, heroes and villains were often simple typecasts, easily discernible by their actions. There was Good and Evil, and not much else in-between. Flash forward to the modern age, and the ranks of the stalwart hero have been joined by the antihero. Typical antiheroes don’t fulfill the expectations of a hero’s morality and behavior, yet nonetheless still serve justice. Reluctant and troubled, they make for interesting, more realistic characters. The portrayal of villains has evolved as well. Once restricted to purely selfish or destructive acts, villainy isn’t as cut-and-dried in the Valiant universe. Truth is a matter of perspective, and several of the Valiant villains force readers to consider things from other points of view and question morality. Based on one’s perspective, a character may be a savior or a monster. Morality becomes a murky area. The result is complex characters that readers find relatable and believable with motivations that we can empathize with, even if we abhor the actions. I call these characters “anti-villains”. Let’s take a look at one of the key hero-villains in the Valiant universe: Toyo Harada. Major appearances: Harbinger, Harbinger Wars, Unity, and is slated to be the focus of Imperium, the next step of the Harbinger story. Harada is one of the most powerful psiots in the world. His powers manifested under extreme duress as a child. He used his abilities to not only survive the horrors of war, but to dominate other survivors, doling out punishment as only a petulant child can.

This has now been followed with a matching set, covering the period 1951 to 1977, called Shadows of Progress. The titles seem to parallel each other, even to the initial P for their abstract nouns, until we notice that the word 'of' has subtly reversed its meaning. It is the land that has promise, but progress that has shadows. This sense of reversal, of the decline of documentary at least in its Griersonian incarnation, seems to have governed the selection of material offered here, which is predominantly sponsored and predominantly shot on 35mm. Certainly few of these 32 films are inspirational in the way that even such a modest item as Night Shift, in the former set, managed to be (and remains). This is partly a reflection of the loss of the socialist conviction which had animated documentaries of the '30s and of the patriotic unity of the war years which, disappointingly, failed to project itself into the Attlee era after 1945.

The first original character was Rai, introduced in Magnus #5. The first original title was Harbinger #1. The Unity storyline of 1992 brought attention to VALIANT, written as capital letters in the 1990s. VALIANT was purchased by Acclaim Entertainment in 1994 and Acclaim went bankrupt in 2004. Valiant Entertainment purchased the Valiant characters in 2005 and restarted the universe in 2012.
