The race consisted of an open- ocean swim, a mountain bike race, and a trail run. It represented a bold new racing format that attracted outdoor enthusiasts, adventure seekers, mountain bikers and triathletes. The mountain bikers brought their laid-back style and bold self-assurance. The triathletes brought their hard-core training and avid dedication. They soon discovered a common spirit and attitude that pulled them together.The relationship would become an internationally- recognized brand called XTERRA. Since that day, XTERRA has grown into the world’s leading off-road triathlon with more than 100 races in 20 countries, including 70 in the XTERRA America Tour alone. A typical XTERRA is comprised of the following: 1.5 kilometer (0.93-mile) swim in an ocean, lake, or river 30 kilometer (18.6-mile) mountain bike on off-road trails 10 kilometer (6.2-mile) trail run on a variety of surfaces 2013 marks the 18th consecutive year of XTERRA racing. The main event is an adventurous half-marathon (13.1-mile/21km) that starts at the base of Kaaawa Valley at Kualoa Ranch. While the Series’ best runners have already proven their worth in rollicking races around the world, one and all are welcome to take them on and race for the championship as no qualification is necessary. In additon to the main event, XTERRA will host 5km and 10km trail runs, an adventure walk, and a free OC 16 kids sprint. A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Hawaii Chapter. It gives me great pleasure to write 2014 was a good year with the usual four Championships for which you will fi nd my annual address for the WMRA all the details in the next pages: the World Championships nicely organised on a Newsletter and to look forward to very special course in Casette di Massa (Italy), but also the Long Distance in Pikes another exciting year of WMRA Lamine Diack Peaks (USA), the Youth in Arco di Trento (Italy again) and the Masters in Telfes competition. Contact: Nancy Hobbs, Chairperson, USATF Mountain Ultra Trail Running Council (719) 573-4133 or [email protected] For Release: November 22, 2009 USATF Mountain Ultra Trail Council Announces Runners of the Year Indianapolis, IN ---- The Mountain/Ultra/Trail Running (MUT) Council of long distance running has named the 2009 USATF Mountain Runners of the year, Ultra Runners of the Year, and Contributor of the Year. The following individuals will be recognized at the USATF National Convention in Indianapolis, on Saturday, December 5, at an awards breakfast. Mountain men open : Joseph Gray, 25, Lakewood, WA, wins his second consecutive USATF Mountain Runner of the Year title. He started out the mountain season in Vail, CO, on the weekend of June 6 running an uphill half marathon (Saturday) and a 10km trail race (Sunday) finishing in third and second respectively. Later that month he finished third at Mount Washington Road Race and won the USA Mountain Running Championships at Cranmore earning a spot on his second Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team. He was the second U.S. finisher at the World Mountain Championships in Madesimo- Campodolcino, Italy, finishing in 16 th place. Gray spent much of the summer in Europe racing and was fifteenth overall in the WMRA Grand Prix standings with only two WMRA Grand Prix race finishes (out of seven) to his credit. Mountain men master : Dave Dunham, 45, Bradford, MA, took home the gold in the 45-49 at the US Mountain Championships at Mt Cranmore. He was also the USATF New England champion (45-49) at Northfield Mountain and was the masters USATF NE Mountain running series champion. -

All of those trails led to Bend, Oregon. Bend is home to some of the best running trails in the country, so the city in Central Oregon will serve as the fitting host for the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship for the third consecutive year. More than 500 runners from around the nation are expected to participate in this year’s XTERRA Nationals. The main event is an off-road half-marathon (13.1 miles/21 kilometers) that starts and finishes in the Old Mill District, and traverses alongside the Deschutes River. While the main focus of the XTERRA Nationals is on crowning national champions, many of the trail runners are uniting in Bend just for a chance to run on the pristine trails. In addition to the 21km championship course, there are separate 10km TABLE OF CONTENTS and 5km races, so runners of all ages and skill levels are able to participate.
