It is one of two primary schools in Jerilderie which has a potential. population of approximately 1,029 people. The school is set on the banks of the Billabong Creek and features beautiful grounds with landscaped gardens, an amphitheatre and community garden. It is well resourced and has a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and ICT while providing students opportunities to participate in a range of extracurricular activities including debating, public speaking, performing arts, robotics and sport. Jerilderie Public School is a founding member of the dynamic BiJOU Learning Community of Berrigan, Jerilderie and Urana which is focused upon building teacher capacity and creating opportunities for our rural students and their peers across the broader Deniliquin Network through the provision of programs such as Drama and Robotics & Coding Camps. The school is also part of the East Hub community of schools and enjoys strong links with Blighty Public School and Finley Public School as well as its feeder secondary school, Finley High School. It is supported by an active and enthusiastic Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association determined to make a real and positive difference in opportunities and resourcing. We engage with the proactive local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) from Finley. School numbers have fluctuated over the past eight years, with student numbers ranging from 49 in 2015 to 26 in 2021. We anticipate that this trend will continue into the future. Our Aboriginal student population fluctuates annually. In 2016, 4.7% of students identified as Aboriginal, compared to 19% of the current enrolment. Through our situational analysis, we have identified explicit teaching, effective feedback, use of data to inform practice, assessment, collaboration and wellbeing as areas of ongoing improvement.
