Have you ever stopped to consider your blessings? I don’t mean do an inventory of your possessions, I mean the blessings that have changed your life and are a continual influence. Blessings can come in many different ways. I am thankful for Mrs. Edith Ray, my first grade teacher, for not only teaching me from books, but for also demonstrating to me true kindness. I’m thankful for the blessing of a high school coach who taught me that principle mattered more than talent, that hard work and earning opportunity was the only way! And what a blessing my dad was and still is! I’m proud to say there’s a lot of Big George in me. He taught me that strength is knowing what is right and doing right, no matter the cost. He taught me my word was my most treasured possession and my bond, and to never break it. He taught me to stand for right and to never back down. All of these are biblical principles we see in the Person of Jesus Christ and His Gospel. What a blessing my dad was in my life and continues to be! And my dear precious mother, Mrs. Eunice, who blessed me in loving me no matter what. She demonstrated the Christ-like integrity to act and not react to the good or the bad. How I’ve been blessed and protected by God in following this Christ-like obedience. Then there are the blessings of my wife and my children, which are innumerable! The bond, the love, the appreciation, and the respect we share means more to me than anything except my salvation! But finally, there are the blessings of God in Christ to salvation and abundant life! Words always seem to rob God of the praise and thanks I should express! My heart rejoices continually! So, I thought I’d use the words of the psalmist to help me:

“HOW HAPPY IS EVERYONE WHO FEARS THE LORD, WHO WALKS IN HIS WAYS! YOU WILL SURELY EAT WHAT YOUR HANDS HAVE WORKED FOR. YOU WILL BE HAPPY AND IT WILL GO WELL FOR YOU. YOUR WIFE WILL BE LIKE A FRUITFUL VINE WITHIN YOUR HOUSE, AND YOUR SONS (AND DAUGHTERS – ADDED EMPHASIS), LIKE YOUNG OLIVE TREES AROUND YOUR TABLE. IN THIS VERY WAY THE MAN WHO FEARS THE LORD WILL BE BLESSED.

MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU FROM ZION, SO THAT YOU WILL SEE THE PROSPERITY OF JERUSALEM ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE AND WILL SEE YOUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN!

25 Truths About Parenting Teenagers I Learned From the Toddler Years

The toddler and teenage years are separated by a decade of time I refer to as the “sweet season,” which gives a bit of respite between the two most challenging age groups in parenting. Maybe it’s nature’s way of letting us practice. Or just a cruel joke. But as adolescence casts its shadow of acne and attitude over your kids as they round the corner into puberty, there’s something eerily familiar about parenting teenagers that I remember from the toddler years. 1. They assume the entire universe revolves around their existence. 2. Everything is dramatic. Everything. 3. They get extremely cranky when they’re hungry and tired. 4. You notice that lots of their friends have poor verbal skills. 5. They like to act like they’re 10 years older than their age. 6. Boys have a certain grimy stink that reappears within 2 hours of bathing. 7. Girls like to experiment with wearing makeup, dressing up, and flouncing around in public. They think they look beautiful. You think they look like street-walking drag queens. 8. It’s impossible to get them to hurry. 9. They’re prone to random emotional meltdowns which include foot-stomping, screaming, and bursting into tears. 10. Occasionally you wonder if they need professional evaluation by a psychologist. Or an exorcist. 11. They crave boundaries but can’t resist testing them. 12. You constantly question your parenting skills and wonder if you’re screwing them up for life. Then you compare them to the neighbor kid who’s a train-wreck and feel a little bit better. 13. They ask profound, thought-provoking questions that catch you off-guard with their depth. It’s actually mind- blowing. 14. They’re overly-interested in their private parts. 15. They have that one friend who just makes your skin crawl. 16. Bedtime is a battle—they always want to stay up later than they should. 17. They’re really into music and can listen to their favorite song 100 times in a row. But they don’t appreciate it when parents try to sing along. 18. They’re obsessive fans of someone cool and famous. (Peyton Manning, Taylor Swift, Elsa) 19. Other people tell you how polite and charming they are, and you can’t really wrap your head around it. 20. They’re extremely opinionated, and there’s no way to rationalize with them. Sometimes it’s impossible not to lose your mind and yell at them. 21. They’re a lot more observant than you think, and they usually remember the things you were hoping they’d forget (like every single one of your parenting fails). 22. Sometimes you sneak into their room while they’re sleeping because you just need to soak in their sweet, sleep- ing face and remember how much you love them. 23. A lot of other parents seem to be irresponsibly permissive or ridiculously rigid, and it eventually affects your friendships with them. 24. You keep looking forward to when they grow out of this phase but then panic at the thought of them getting older. 25. They won’t ever comprehend the depth of the love, fear, joy and pride your heart feels for them until they have kids of their own one day. (You’re just hoping that’s not around the corner too soon.) Do you stay close to God during the day and at the workplace? If you don’t, what can we, His followers, do to stay in touch so that we too may hear God? Most people have full-time secular jobs that take up a significant portion of the day. Here are three things that can be done to maintain a prayerful attitude, in order to stay in touch with God throughout the workday:

Pray Before Leaving Home During the course of the day, there are going to be challenges and temptations to get us to sin. We want to pray to be covered by and to utilize God's full body armor. We want to ask to have the Holy Spirit fill us so that our words and actions may be influenced by Him. In line with that, pray to be sensitive to His voice. We want to ask the Lord to help us to be a blessing to others, and ask what is it He would have us do that day. And then be quiet, and just listen. The answer may come then, or later during the day. That's why it's important to stay in touch.

Listen to a Christian Radio Station, CD, etc. Do this in your automobile on the way to the job. Absorbing the Word and/or worship music in this way helps us stay close and sensitive to the workings of the Spirit. Sometimes God will give an answer to our praying questions through these settings. For me, music helps me learn and worship at the same time. In music you can find great biblical truths and lessons straight out of the Bible. Music and prayer help bring me closer to God and help prepare me to worship. If I’m having a bad day, one of the things I turn to is worship music. Listen to music on the way to work and at work, you never know who may be listening and that could open a door for you to share the gospel.

Call on God during Lunch and Rest Breaks Take a part of this time and pray. It doesn't have to be long. It can be a quick, microwave-type prayer. The point is to acknowledge the presence of the Lord and His promise not to forsake us. If you like to read, instead of a secular publication, read the Bible or a Christian magazine, or some other Christian literature. Or, if possible, start a spiritual conversation with a co-worker. Again, what we are doing is giving ourselves the opportunity to stay in touch with and hear God.

The point is to make sure you are staying in the word of God throughout the day. Not just on Sunday and Wednesday. I challenge you to be a great, Godly example in the workplace. These practices or disciplines, I believe, will keep us attuned to God throughout the workday. Pastor Tyler

Today, many are consumed with how our bodies look and with healthy lifestyles. We cycle, run, Exercise, and go to the gym for physical work-outs. What about our spiritual health? Godly living requires a daily surrendering of our will to God's. We "die to self." Following Jesus is easy when life runs smoothly; our true commitment to Him is revealed during trials. Only by a close relationship with Him through prayer, meditation on His Word, and friendship with His people can He do the work of transformation in our character so that we become more like Him. We should live in a way that those who know us, but don't know God, will come to know God because they know us. If we radiate God's love, it will help build successful relationships. Our relationships serve a very special purpose in our lives. In order for our daily spiritual work-out to be effective, we must be Christians who walk the walk and talk the talk. Let us strive to make things better and make a difference, one relationship at a time.
