RSE President-Elect We are delighted to announce that Professor Dame Anne Glover FRS FRSE has been elected the next President of the RSE, following an extensive consultation of the RSE Fellowship. Dame Anne’s appointment will be confirmed at the Annual Statutory Meeting on Monday 30 October 2017 and she will serve for three years from April 2018. Dame Anne will succeed Professor Dame FRS FRSE. Thank you to all Fellows who took the time to vote in the Ballot. Dame Anne, who became a Fellow in 2005, joined the in 1983 and pursued a distinguished career in . She was appointed the first Chief Scientific Adviser to Scotland in 2006 (until 2011) and then the first Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission in 2012 (until 2014). In June 2015, she rejoined the University to take up her present Vice-Principal role. Fellows’ Engagement Events Fellows’ Engagement Events are an opportunity for the President to provide Fellows with an update on RSE activities and developments; to start to develop regional activities for Fellows; and, most importantly, to listen to opinions and suggestions from Fellows, which will help to inform future activities of the RSE. Invitations for the events in Dundee (Wednesday 13 September, University House, University of Dundee), Aberdeen (Monday 25 September, Linklater Rooms, University of Aberdeen) and Edinburgh (Tuesday 26 September, Dovecot Studios) have now been issued. Fellows’ Morning Discussion Meetings Coffee is available in the Fellows’ Room on Tuesdays at 10.30 am. Once a month, between October 2017 and March 2018, there will be a Discussion meeting, normally in the Wellcome East Room, introduced by an invited speaker. AcademiaNet The RSE is a member of AcademiaNet – www.academia-net.org/, an expert database of outstanding female researchers, established by the Robert Bosch Foundation, with the purpose of increasing the number of female academics in decision-making bodies and leading positions, and enhancing their visibility. All Fellows are encouraged to use this free resource when seeking conference participants, experts to quote, board members, reviewers, etc. Female Fellows who have not yet joined this network can be nominated by the RSE. Staff News We are delighted to welcome our new Chief Executive Officer, Rebekah Widdowfield, who starts here on Friday 1 September 2017. Also, Nazia Khan who starts as Events Assistant on 4 September. We are sorry to say ‘goodbye’ to Cara McKeown, Venue Assistant, who leaves on Friday 8 September and Rebecca Dudgeon, Events Assistant, whose last day is Friday 15 September.
