September 11-14, 2019, Heilbronn, Germany Dear Participants, The Heilbronn-Franken Chamber of Commerce and Industry would like to thank MATRIZ and the members of the board for choosing Heilbronn as the venue for their events following Pra- gue, Seoul, Beijing, Krakow and Lisbon. We are honored to be the host of this year's interna- tional conference and pleased to welcome some of the world's best developers. As a Chamber of Commerce and Industry we are responsible for 72,000 member companies. And we support them in issues ranging from cradle to cradle, represent the interests of the members vis-à-vis politics and carry out sovereign tasks. We are located in one of the economically strongest and most dynamic regions, have the highest density of world market leaders in Germany with a great variety of industries, which you can reach all by car within an hour. Innovations are vital for the survival of companies and TRIZ is a good way to produce radical innovations. Since 2006, the IHK has been supporting a TRIZ user group consisting of devel- opers from the member companies who meet once a month to solve tasks with TRIZ. I wish the event a good course and inspiring conversations, interesting lectures and a good stay. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. September 11-14, 2019, Heilbronn, Germany Dear TRIZfest 2019 Participants and Readers, It is a pleasure to announce the 15th International Conference “TRIZfest 2019” which will be held on September 11-14, 2019 in Heilbronn, Germany. Germany is a country famous for its long-term achievements in the areas of engineering and technology. Many breakthrough inventions and innovations have been produced by German engineers and inventors. Germany established very solid background in academic research on engineering and innovation including a systematic approach to conceptual engineering design. Needless to say, Germany was one of the first countries which started to introduce TRIZ when it was brought to the world. It all makes us proud to have our conference in the country. This year the conference includes papers and presentations focused on the following topics: • Theoretical, research results. • TRIZ-related methods and tools development. • Best practices, business experiences, integration with non-TRIZ methods/tools. • TRIZ-Pedagogy • Educational methods and experiences. • Case studies. TRIZfest 2019 will continue its special section “TRIZ-Pedagogy” and introduce panel discus- sions on several important topics regarding TRIZ and its applications. We would like to thank all the authors and co-authors who contributed their works to include to these Proceedings and therefore provided considerable impact on further development of TRIZ and its dissemination around the world. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the members of the TRIZfest 2019 Organ- izing Committee who provided their help and support as well as to the members of the Papers Review Committee who invested their precious time to select the best papers and provide au- thors with comments how to improve their papers. We particularly appeal to the international communities and request investigation of this systematic, ongoing, egregious violation of human rights committed by the Government of the People’s Republic of China against Falun Gong. Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual practice that includes exercise and meditation. Its principles are based on the values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. The practice began in China in 1992 and quickly spread throughout China and then beyond. By the end of 1998, by the Chinese government's own estimate, there were 70 - 100 million people in China who had taken up the practice, outnumbering Communist Party member. Despite the fact that it was good for the people and for the stability of the country, former President JIANG Zemin launched in July 1999 an unprecedented persecution of Faun Gong out of fears of losing control. Today the persecution of Falun Gong still continues in China. As of the end of March 2004, 918 Falun Gong practitioners have been confirmed to die from persecution.

The phenomenon of these autonomous Chinese Automakers is drawing increasing attention not only from academia but also from business and government circles. This paper attempts to clarify the relationship between emergence of ICAMs and International Technology Transfer. Many scholars indicate the use of outside supplies (of engines and other key-parts), as a sole reason for high-speed growth of ICAMs. However, the internal approach, at a level of how companies act, is also necessary to outline all the reasons and factors that might contribute to the process. This paper, based on organizational view, starts from historical perspective and clarifies the internal dynamics of the ICAMs.

This study explored the data independencies between technology input and economy output of Chinese National Innovation Demonstration Zone based on Rough Sets Theory, for the purpose of conducting a new way to understand the unstructured relation between technology input and economy output, as well as to promoting the effective combination of technology and economy output of Chinese National Innovation Demonstration Zone, which was the most important part of national innovation system of China. The Rough Set Theory was applied to analyze the 8 Chinese National Innovation Demonstration Zone’s technology input and economy output data from 2007 to 2014. The result demonstrated that: (1) of the economy output indicators, ratio of technical income to total income, ratio of net profit to total income and export were not combined effectively with

  • Researching the Transfer of Management Knowledge to China During the Inter-War Years: Bibliometric and Social Network Approaches
Researching the transfer of management knowledge to China during the inter-war years: Bibliometric and social network approaches Stephen L Morgan Department of Management University of Melbourne tel: +61 (0) 3 8344 5282; fax: +61 (0) 3 9347 3770 [email protected] Paper prepared for the Asia/Pacific Economic and Business History Conference, QUT, Brisbane, 16-18 February 2006 Comment: My original intention was to present a paper titled “Sources of managerial knowledge in Republican China, 1910-30s: A preliminary bibliometric analysis”, but I have not completed the analysis of the collected data. Instead, I propose to discuss the use of techniques such as bibliometric and social network analyses to explore historically how managerial knowledge is transferred abroad, received, adapted and implemented, specifically focused on China. Below I present a set of notes, points and pictures that I hope will interest colleagues and promote discussion of methodologies. Key words: China, Management history, Business History, Scientific management Introduction Where do management ideas come from? The simple answer is any and everywhere. Managers draw on formal knowledge from their schooling, their reading of the business and popular press, and from observation of the behavior in their firm and their competitors. Most studies of cross-country transfer of managerial knowledge are about the transfer of largely American knowledge to Europe and to a lesser extent Japan. These studies often emphasize the role of business schools, management consultants and individual management guru or approaches associated with a particular guru promoted by an industry organization. Professional and business associations play a crucial role in the transfer of knowledge, setting standards and promoting education, and that is a particular focus of my research.

Greetings! This has been another great, productive year for our Academy (IABE). With the 80 manuscripts contained in these proceedings of the IABE, almost four times as many scholars from all continents are proposing to share their research with you at this meeting as did in last year. We are particularly proud to note that this growth is taking place while, as most our reviewers have commented, the overall competitiveness of all submissions has escalated. A glance at the table of contents of these proceedings confirms the trademark of our meetings, journals and proceedings: the continental breadth of authors, and the scholarly depth of their contributions. The titles are as provocative as the contents are informative. Unless you always thought (as you will read) that Modigliani and Miller propositions were tautology, or already knew the individual differences behind the plagiarism you may observe in your classroom. More than ever, IABE is dedicating itself to providing an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment where you may engage other scholars and expose yourself to other views and methods in your discipline. As always, we welcome your manuscripts, abstracts and cases or you may chose to participate next year as a reviewer, track chair, or discussant.

  • Professional Associations and the Diffusion of New Management Ideas in Shanghai, 1920-1930S: a Research Agenda Stephen L
Professional Associations and the Diffusion of New Management Ideas in Shanghai, 1920-1930s: A Research Agenda Stephen L. Morgan In this paper, I examine the role business, professional, and academic networks played in diffusing new management ideas, such as scientific management, in China during the inter-war years. At the core of these associations were Chinese who had returned from overseas studies to take positions in academia, business, and government. There was much overlap in the association memberships and crossing between industry, government, and academic employment. While institutional theorists, business historians, and others have studied the role of professional associations in the growth and diffusion of modern management, there has been little work on “modern” professional bodies in China, in particular the “network linkages” or “interlocks” among the associations and their memberships that facilitated the transfer and diffusion of managerial ‘know-how’ across borders. Data are primarily archival and other Chinese sources. This paper is part of a larger project on the development of management ideas and business organization in China. A distinguishing feature of Chinese business is the network ties between people and organizations. Chinese business networks arise due to the failure of bureaucratic governance, the failure of markets, or both. They are a means to reduce uncertainty and lower transaction costs in the presence of either type of failure. Their social basis is in the dense and particularistic relationships that stem from dialect or native place affiliations that have long been the glue that binds Chinese business. To the extent that they assist in organizing the conduct of business, these business networks also serve as a specific type of inter-firm governance arrangement between the market and the internal hierarchy of the firm.
