Big Five O-Week Graskop, South Africa 29th December 2019 – 3rd January 2020 Bulletin 3 The Big 5 O-Week committee would like to welcome you to the fifth edition of the Big Five O-Week. This year we have a new venue, the town of Graskop, an old historical trade post and gold mining village famous for its picturesque mountains and forested landscapes. Graskop, located at an altitude of 1400m above sea level, is located on the touristic ‘Panorama Route’ that follows the Drakensberg Escarpment. The town is only 45 minutes from the Phabeni Gate of the Kruger National Park. During the five day, the event will also host two World Ranking Events for the Elite categories. The organising committee continues to make improvements to the Big 5 O-Week every year and we would definitely like to improve on it again in the future. We encourage you to give us your feedback after the race, both positive and negative on how we can make the Big 5 a better event in two years time. In the meantime, enjoy the Big 5 in 2019 / 2020! 420 MPUMALANGA — Introduction modernoverland.com modernoverland.com Introduction — MPUMALANGA 421 Mpumalanga Mpumalanga (pronounced M-poo-ma-lung-ah) means “the place where the sun rises” in Zulu and siSwati. Reflecting its name, it is a scenic province with incredible vistas between the Drakensberg MPUMALANGA escarpment and Lowveld. While the major attraction that draws visitors to the province is the nearby Kruger National Park, the surrounding towns are much more than just a launching point for MPUMALANGA day trips into the Kruger and should not be missed. The Blyde River Canyon area and the towns of Graskop and Sabie just south of the Canyon offer an assortment of adventure activities, hiking trails and dozens of waterfalls to swim under and are conveniently located less than an hour from Kruger. There are also private game reserves within the province, many of which can offer a game-viewing experience similar to the big park but without a large crowd.
