Durham club holds fundraiser for ‘Bent not Broken’ charity Bearpark & District Workmens Club in Durham held a Family Fun Day in April and raised over £1,000 towards the costs of a 12-year-old’s travel to Germany for surgery to correct a curve in her spine. Lauren Rennie (pictured above with mum Joanne), from Ushaw Moor, is due to travel to Germany this month for the operation, which is currently not available in the UK. The 12-year-old has had scoliosis since she was a baby and has three curves in her back, including one of 55 degrees. Her family is raising £32,000 to cover the cost of the operation being carried out by a specialist surgeon at a German hospital. The Bent not Broken fundraiser took place at the club on Saturday, April 14 and included a fairground, zumbathon and stalls. Education Committee launches new Award in Club Management Conference Weekend saw the launch of the Union’s new Education Programme take place at the Bloomfield Club in Blackpool. e new qualification, which has been developed by the CIU’s Education Committee working in tandem with CPL Training, is called the Award in Club Management (ACM). e course consists of three self-contained units, each taking one day of classroom- based study to complete. Unit 1A of the course covers Law & Regulation, Licensing. Unit 1B covers Other Law and Regulations. Unit 2 covers the topics of Management, Finance and Administration.
