Day 01

Arrival, welcome by a representative of Lanka Sportreizen and transfer to Hotel in –

“Little Rome”

Negombo… Being one of the major tourist beach resorts of the island, this lively town is mainly inhabited by the fisher-folk. This is also one of the strongholds of the catholic community of Sri Lanka and quietly correctly considered as the “Little Rome”, located along the picturesque , along which hundreds of fishing boats and catamarans could be seen most of the time. The Town is dotted with several churches, some dating from the earliest colonial times. Sightseeing in Negombo includes the remains of the Old Dutch Fortress from 1678, the Dutch Canal constructed for the transportation of Cinnamon, St. Mary’s Church and the Old Dutch Cemetery, and naturally, the Negombo Fish Market –more famously known as the “Lellama”.

Evening City Tour of Negombo including a Fishing Village, Old Dutch Fortress from 1678 converted to prison, the Hamilton Canal which was built by the Dutch for the transportation of Cinnamon; St. Mary’s Church and the Old Dutch Cemetery and naturally the Negombo Fish Market.

Day 02

After breakfast leave for Pinnawala

Pinnawala...... located on the banks of Maha Oya , claimed as the only place in the entire planet earth where one can see such a large herd of captive elephants , established in 1975 as an effort towards education and conservation of scientific captive breeding , it provides shelter to young elephants who find themselves abandoned , displaced or lost from their natural habitats due to various reasons such as environmental changes due to development projects, being abandoned by their parents when they fall into pits and ravines, etc.

Visit the Elephant Orphanage to see the world's largest herd of domestic elephants including babies who are still being fed by bottle thrice a day.

Afterwards proceed to Ratnapura –“City of Gems “

Ratnapura…Sri Lanka’s renowned City of Gems, located on the southern fringes of the hill country in the awning of the famous Adam’s Peak. Bordered by tea estates and rubber plantations, it is also famous for the Pothgul Vihare — dating back to the 1st Century BC, this temple built by King Valagambha has cave paintings, a statue of the Reclining Buddha and an interesting sculpture of a devil with his mouth open.

In Rathnapura visit the places of interest of the Gem Industry in Sri Lanka including Gem Mines to get an insight in to this important segment of the local economy.

Day 03

After breakfast leave for Udawalawe

Udawalawe National Park … It is situated around a reservoir of the same name in the south central area of the island. This park comprises grasslands, thorny scrubs and many valuable species of trees. Large herds of elephants, species of deer, wild boar, water buffalo and jackals are some of the wild animals found, along with a variety of avifauna that abounds the park.

In the afternoon undertake a Jeep Safari of the Udawalawe National Park mainly to see wild elephants. Also visit the Elephant Transit Home

Elephant Transit Home ...Located just outside the Udawalawe National Park in the Southwestern Part of Sri Lanka , opened its doors to baby elephants in need in 1995. The babies are well looked after fed and groomed to integrate back into a jungle environment. After a stay of approximately four years .This has turned out o be a successful conservation exercise where interested elephant conservation enthusiasts can become foster parents for these baby pachyderms until they are weaned away from milk and learn to eat other types of food for a reasonable fee.

Sinharaja Rain Forest….declared as a World Heritage Site in 1989 , Sinharaja – Sri Lanka’s last remaining primeval rain forest is classified as a Tropical Rain Forest or a Wet Evergreen Forest. Considering the fact that 75 – 92% of the tree cover consists of endemic plant species and that 8 out of 12 mammals, 18 out of 20 birds, 21 out of 72 reptiles, 10 out of 19 amphibians , Sinharaja no doubt is considered as a haven for endemism , both fauna and flora. Picturesque Sinharaja is not only a place for a paradise for nature lovers but a laboratory for scientific and educational research but in view of its unique eco systems and genetic resources.

Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve is a national park in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests eco region, The reserve's name translates as Kingdom of the Lion.

Enjoy the nature at its best in this Treasure Trove with a high degree of endemism both flora and fauna.

Bentota…..is everything a tropical paradise should be-miles of golden, palm – fringed beaches, lapped by the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The township offers visitors an opportunity to explore Sri Lanka’s natural, cultural and historical riches at their own pace.

Colombo ...Sri Lanka's capital up to recent times spread along the shore of the Indian Ocean for some miles, where business and commerce begin and end. A drive through the city will take you to Colombo's most fashionable residential district - the Cinnamon Gardens and the Pettah, Colombo's busiest and most traditional bazaar area. Visits to the Hindu temple with elaborate stone carvings, the Dutch church at Wolvendhal dating back to 1749, and the historic Devatagaha mosque.
