MEDIA RELEASE ------------------- DYNAMIC FORWARD, MACKENZIE CLINCH HOYCARD READY FOR THE PERTH LYNX OPPORTUNITY Dynamic forward, Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard is the latest player to join the Perth Lynx playing roster for their 2020 Chemist Warehouse WNBL Season. A Kalgoorlie native, Clinch Hoycard is another example of a Basketball WA’s junior, who has come through the State Pathway Program to earn a DP spot with the Perth Lynx program. The 6'3 forward showcased the ability to hit the outside shot as well as being a threat in the post during her year and a half (2017/18 Season) with the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team. Coach Ryan Petrik expressed optimism in seeing Clinch Hoycard hit the court during the QLD hub season "For someone her size she can shoot it, which will give her a chance to play with our game style and in this hub model, straight away." Clinch Hoycard is ready to step up and take the opportunity, adding; "I am excited to be able to play alongside such a talented team and am so grateful for this opportunity. While I know the competition will be tough, I am keen to learn all I can from such a unique experience." MEDIA RELEASE VERSATILE GUARD ALEX CIABATTONI RETURNS TO THE PERTH LYNX Alex Ciabattoni, the WNBL 2015/16 Rookie of the Year, has today been confirmed as returning to the Perth Lynx for the 2020/21 WNBL season. Ciabattoni, or Chibba as she is affectionately known to fans, previously played for the Lynx in season 2017/18 before plying her trade overseas in Italy. Ciabattoni is also no stranger to WA SBL audiences after appearing for both the Kalamunda Eastern Suns and the Rockingham Flames, most recently steering the Flames to WSBL Grand Final glory in season 2019. Lynx Head Coach Ryan Petrik welcomed the addition of the versatile Ciabattoni to his squad. “Alex is someone who can do a little bit of everything and with the way the game is going that skillset is really valuable to us.” Petrik also hinted that Ciabattoni may be used in a different role to where she has previously been deployed. “We know Chibba’s game really well and we’re confident that she has the ability to be a real weapon for us this season.” For her part Ciabattoni is ecstatic to be returning to Perth, a place she calls a second home. “I love Perth and I see myself building a long-term future in the Western Australia. The culture being built at the Lynx is something that’s really attractive to me and it’s definitely something I want to contribute to.” Alex Ciabattoni joins a Lynx roster for the 2020/21 WNBL that includes Sami Whitcomb, Katie Ebzery and Darcee Garbin.

Hot Shots Program 6 Basketball has so many strengths compared to many other sports Association 7 Development offered to the community. In fact the word community is a very apt Southern Cross 8 description of what basketball provides to so many…a sense of Challenge community. Its ability to engage kids at the very earliest of ages to Annual Awards Dinner 12 seniors enjoying throwing a hoop for fun, basketball can provide it all for Aussie Hoops 14 men and women, able and disabled, metro and regional, indoor and Associations Cup 15 outdoor. Sport is more than physical activity, although the physical Country Development 16 component has some obvious benefits, sport itself brings the November Calendar 17 community together, provides a sense of purpose and belonging. Team sports also build character through leadership and team building, discipline and commitment, kids are versed in winning and losing and what better way to prepare them for the challenges of life, but when it is all said and done basketball provides that underlying foundation of fitness, health, personal development and fun. I look forward to the challenge of bringing basketball to the community and helping us reach Basketball WA and touch more lives to enjoy this wonderful sport for life.
