Editorial

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” – Henry Ford

Editorial Team We, the members of the HSNC Board institutions understand that progress and success cannot be achieved without teamwork. As Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani Henry Ford said, “keeping together and working as one will result in President, HSNC Board teamwork which is the key to that success”. What better way to work towards this success than to become acquainted with the efforts put Dr. Hemlata K. Bagla in by the various institutions of the HSNC Family? Vice Principal K.C. College, Here we present our very own HSNC Board e-Magazine, South Mumbai Campus ‘Razzmatazz’ –a name that spells excited action or impressive

display. Its purpose is to do just that: dazzle one and all with the Dr. Neha Jagtiani achievements and milestones of its distinct institutions operating Vice Principal under the ambit of the HSNC Board. Message from the President

Beloved Members of the Board,

All of us, including the distinguished stakeholders (take) pride in HSNC Board as our alma mater. ‘Alma mater’ stems from Latin and stands for ‘Nourishing Mother,’ resonating with our board’s ideal of fostering and nourishing its students, staff, management, nonteaching staff and other esteemed members.

Our Board is an emissary in the field of education that not only stood the test of time, but surpassed all in ensuring quality education and wholesome development to people from diverse economic, cultural and social backgrounds. It also guides them towards professional accomplishment and community service with an understanding of what it means to be a good and responsible citizen. The Alumni, stakeholders and everybody associated with the Board, boast of its splendid, awe- inspiring achievements. Our alma mater has nurtured our minds and our hearts, fostered personal relationships lasting a life time and opened the world to us in unimaginable ways.

As stakeholders, we are extremely privileged in contributing to this noble mission. By serving as mentors, to a plethora of students across generations, providing them with exposure and personal guidance, we continuously strive to ensure the optimum for our students.

Serving as the President of HSNC Board has been a great privilege. The youthful optimism and passion exhibited by the student strikes a cord in my heart and it gives me immense joy and satisfaction to accomplish my work. Just as I have done, I encourage you all to live out your passion, and work for our HSNC Board family.

I am confident that with this unique venture, we will be able to fulfil our mission of bringing our institutions together as one family.

Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani

Trustees’ Message

I am glad to learn that with the initiative taken by our Faculty Member, the Board has decided to publish e-Magazine on quarterly basis.

With this e-Magazine, we will be able to bring together every college of the HSNC Board into one combine and unified identity. It will help each College to learn from the unique strength of our other colleges and better understand what it means to be part of the HSNC Board's distinguished heritage inherited by us from our Founding Fathers, Barrister Hotchand Advani and Vidyasagar. Principal Khushiram Kundnani.

I am sure that the e-Magazine will be a great success.

With Best Wishes, Mr. Kishu Mansukhani

"Nothing has really happened until it has been described", said the famous author, Virginia Woolfe.

Tsunamis, for instance, have taken place during the ages but it is only the Tsunami that occurred a few years ago and was described in graphic details which is printed in our minds.

Communication, therefore, is extremely important and what better way to relate and describe the events in the great Institutions of the HSNC Board, the buzz and the plans, than through an e-magazine? Such an e-magazine can enable all the numerous Institutions of the HSNC Board and the 50,000 or so students and staff directly connected with the Board to reach out to each other and to know the activities being undertaken and to share the joys and best practices of each other.

I am very pleased that e-magazine with a strong and senior editorial team is being brought out and I am sure it will generate a great deal of response and that there will be inputs and material from everyone and this will strengthen the bonds between all of us.

I wish the e-magazine a grand success and a wonderful journey ahead!

Mr. Anil Harish

Down Memory Lane…

Prof. J.K. Bhambhani is the Rector & Secretary of the Board. He was also Principal of K.C. College. A thorough gentleman, he exudes a quiet strength of purpose. He is actively involved in all the Board's activities and took over as Principal of K.C. College from Principal K.M. Kundnani. A man of Science, he established many departments under the faculty of Science of K.C. College. Besides, he has been actively involved in several Research Projects and Publications. He had been on several committees of Mumbai University. He is the recipient of several awards for his contribution to the field of education. He introduced many innovative ideas and looks after the affairs of the Board in a methodical and organized manner. Prof. J. K. Bhambhani

 In your dynamic and multifaceted career as a Vice Principal, Principal and Administrator, which role did you enjoy the most and why? Normally the posts of Vice Principal and Principal are teaching posts. But my mentors Late Vidyasagar Principal K.M. Kundnani and Late Barrister Hotchand Advani had assigned me a lot of administrative work too. It helped me to develop an aptitude for both the categories. I tried to perform both types of assignments to the best of my ability and I enjoyed it.

 In your journey so far, what has been more challenging for you - being a splendid teacher or an efficient administrator? I tried my level best to do justice to teaching as well as administration. However, it is for the students, teaching, non-teaching staff and parents/public to judge my performance.

 What have been the constants in your approach towards more than 6 generations of staff members that have interacted and worked with you in your career? As per my assessment, the younger generation of staff members is keen to achieve better results and acquire additional knowledge through modern methods of research and technology and they have a lot of scope.

 Workplace is considered a person’s second home, but for you K.C. has been your only home. How did you make this happen? I started my career as a lecturer, was promoted as Professor, Vice Principal, Principal and Rector and Secretary of HSNC Board and was incidentally also residing in KC College since 1994, obviously, as a second home.

 What is the utmost quality that you look for while interviewing a candidate for teacher’s post? How do you tap into it? While interviewing candidates for teacher’s posts, I expect enforcement of discipline, being up-to-date in academics, inclination for research and last but not the least cultural activities to come close to the younger generation i.e. students.

7

Down Memory Lane…

 What is your vision regarding the future of HSNC Board? HSNC Board is managed by the selfless Trustees and learned members of the Board. It has already grown qualitatively and quantitatively and has a very bright future ahead.

 What are the names of some students you remember? Here are the names of some of our illustrious alumni:  Mr. Anil Ambani.  Dr. B.C. Haldar, Former Director, Institute of Science, particulary in the field of Nuclear & Radio Chemistry.

 Do you remember any fond memories shared by Principal Kundnani? My association with Late Vidyasagar Principal was unique. Academically he was a Teacher of Physics, Builder, Contractor, Architect, and Mountaineer and a Lover of Nature. He visited Kashmir eighteen times, and also visited Dehradun, Nainital, Mussorie etc. Every time he used to write letters to me from wherever he was, which I have preserved as my treasure. As first aid medicine he always used to carry a medium sized bottle of Brandy. Once while climbing in Kashmir, he saved the life of a young couple who were also climbing with him. The couple could not climb to that height and were about to collapse. He took out the bottle of Brandy, massaged their bodies and revived them. The couple could never forget his contribution to their lives and they come to pay their respects in Bombay every year.

 Share some of your favourite quotes during your association with Kundnani Sir.

There are several quotes of Late Principal Kundnani which have left a deep impact on my mind. On 15th August, 1956, after the Flag Hoisting Ceremony in K. C. College, Rama Watumull Auditorium, he said “Nobody has ever died of Hard Work. People die if they have no work.” In one of the Greeting Cards to me he wrote “Hard and Honest work will always be rewarded”. In one of his personal letters from Oberoi Palace Hotel, Srinagar (May1987), he wrote “Unintentional errors are not even excused but forgotten by superiors” and “What cannot be cured has to be endured”. There are too many to fit in such a short answer.

 Please enlighten us with some pearls of wisdom that we could look up to and imbibe/ incorporate in our lives. As far as possible, each of us should cultivate an ‘ethical code of conduct’ and try one’s level best to acquire more relevent knowledge. In the age of developing technology, we should be research oriented and should develop a lot of interaction with industry i.e consumers of our products and thus facilitate their placement. No student or teacher is satisfied only with excellent infrastructure or palatial buildings.

A Tribute…

Dr. Ram S. Tarneja was the one of the senior members of the Hyderabad Sind National Collegiate Board. He was a widely respected person for his leadership skills and was passionately involved in everything he did. He was appointed by the Board as Director, Bombay School of Business and was actively involved with the International Economic Convention of the Board, an annual event, which he headed as Chairman for more than a decade.
