Welcome visiting teams, Cavaliers’ fans and guests!

On behalf of the Concordia University athletic department I would like to wel- come you to Concordia University.

Whether this is your fi rst time to Portland or making an annual pilgrimage to the area, the Concordia staff and I hope to make the stay for your coaches, admin- istration and players a comfortable and memorable experience.

This visitor’s guide has been published to assist you with the details related to your travels and stay while visiting our campus located in the northeast corner of the Rose City. We hope it becomes a useful tool and answers many of your questions regarding the surrounding area.

As members of the NAIA, all of the Cascade Collegiate Conference member schools are part of the NAIA’s “Champions of Character” program which is a national initiative that encourages living lives of respect, responsibility, integ- rity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. Coming from Portland International Airport Going West on I-84 – Head east on NE Airport Way—away from the Airport – Exit I-205 North, follow signs to Seattle The first signal you will come to is NE – Take Exit #23B - NE Columbia Blvd – 82nd Ave. Turn right onto 82nd – Stay to the right to merge onto US-30 Bypass West – Follow 82nd around a few curves - you will soon be heading – Immediately move to left lanes (DO NOT take Columbia Blvd) down what appears to be a highway – Follow US-30 BP 3.7 miles. Willamette Blvd., Portland, OR 97203 (Tel: 503-943-8000) From I-5, take the Rosa Parks Way (formerly Portland Blvd.) exit (#304); Go west onto Rosa Parks Way (Portland Blvd.); Follow Rosa Parks Way (Portland Blvd.) to Willamette Blvd., where you will take a right; Stay on Willamette Blvd. for approximately one-and-a-half miles; Keep going past the main entrance to the University on your left hand side; Take a left on N. Portsmouth Ave. (at traffi c lights); Etzel Field is on your left; Street parking available.

Soccer & Softball East Delta Park (Strasser Field and Owens Softball Complex) N Victory Blvd Portland, OR 97217 (corner of N Denver Avenue and N MartinLuther King Jr Blvd) From I-5 North take the Delta Park exit (307); Stay to the right and follow signs to Delta Park. From I-5 South take exit (307); Loop up and around the freeway, heading east over the over-pass; Stay in the right lane and follow signs to Delta Park. From the airport take airport way; Then take a right at 82nd drive; Continue down 82nd drive until you reach Columbia Blvd; Take a right onto Columbia; When you reach Martin Luther King Blvd, take a right; MLK Blvd turns into Union Ct. Field Events Concordia University Throw Center 9140 NE Sunderland Avenue, Portland OR, 97211

From the Concordia University campus, drive 1.9 miles (about six minutes); Head east on NE Hol- man St toward NE 33rd Ave; Turn left at NE 33rd Ave; Take the Col. Blvd W ramp to Marine Dr; Slight right at NE 33rd Dr; Turn left at NE Sunderland Ave.

The Concordia University Throw Center is the fi rst dedicated throw facility of its kind in the United States. Located just down the road from the Concordia campus, the Throw Center is a world-class venue for youth and collegiate athletes, as well as Olympic hopefuls. Located on 10 acres of land near the Portland International Airport, the unique layout includes a basketball court-sized rain shelter for all-weather use that enables all four implements (javelin, hammer, discus and shot put) to be thrown simultaneously in a safe environment. Outside the shelter, each discipline has its own dedicated space with permanent cages, throwing circles or runways. The layout also allows temporary expansion for many event areas to increase the facility’s overall fl exibility.

Locker Rooms Locker room facilities include lockers, showers, towels and dry erase boards. Visitor locker rooms will be assigned to your team upon your arrival.

Sports Medicine The athletic treatment room is located in the Concordia University Gymnasium on the lower level (see Campus Map).

A Certifi ed Athletic Trainer will be available on site for all home varsity contests. During events, the training staff is avail- able near the Cavaliers team area.

The visiting team will be supplied with water, cups, ice bags and emergency equipment.

Concordia strives to help student-athletes reach their full potential, and to be among the top competitors in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The new athletic complex will provide fi rst-class facilities for soccer and baseball to meet the growing needs of Cavalier athletics and the community. The new facility will enrich the experience for Cavalier players and fans, and serve the community through hosting tournaments, clinics, camps, and local community sports programs.

Major industries are tourism, high-tech, health care and manufacturing. Average temperatures range from 39.6 F (4.2 C) in January to 76 F (24.4 C) in July. The Portland area has an established base of sports enthusiasts, as home to the: • Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association housed at the Rose Quarter • Portland Timbers (a Major League Soccer franchise in 2011) at PGE Park • Headquarters of Nike, adidas America and Columbia Sportswear

Forest Park, located west of downtown Portland, is one of the nation’s largest urban for- est reserves with about 70 miles of recreational trails.

Powell’s City of Books, occupying an entire block of the Pearl District, is the world’s larg- est independent bookstore. Other attractions include the Oregon Zoo, Saturday Market, Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI), International Rose Test Garden and the Japanese Gardens. Mt. Hood ski resorts (including the year-round Timberline) and the Pacifi c Coast are both within 90 minutes driving.
