  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • Punk Rock History Project
It’s the incredible free! MutantMutant PopPop Z Mailorder Catalog Another catalog, another great record on the street... Whoops! Make that two great records!!! I finally managed to get MP-36 DARLINGTON “Bowling Betty” EP out the door during the first week of February. A little later than I had been predicting, to be sure, but anyone who has been keeping score at home already knows that I’m about the world’s worst for predicting release dates. Either the art is late or I’m late or the plant is late or the sleeve is late. Sometimes all of the above. Don’t sweat these things too much, everything gets out there eventually... The distributors are once again staying away from my stuff in droves. Who knows, one of these days you may see a Mutant Pop ad on the TV during late night wrestling advertising Mutant Pop singles under the slogan “Not Available in Any Store.” That’s the direction things are headed anyway! (Distributors are welcome to wake up any time!) One of the paradoxes of this label is that the MP name gets more identifiable, as stuff starts to sell faster from the bins and more people are collecting the singles series, the distributors and stores are taking fewer and fewer copies. It’s surreal, almost like an episode of “Twilight Zone.” If current trends con- tinue, by the time I wrap up the label in 2005, MP will be the biggest name in punk and will sell exactly 7 copies of each new release to distributors..

In 1989 he started directing commercials, music videos, live concerts and documentaries. He still has a love of editing and continues to edit much of his own work, as well as programmes and concerts for other directors when he’s in between projects of his own. He has won awards for programmes on Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and Frank Zappa's 'Overnite Sensation & Apostrophe'. He worked as both Director and Editor on the following films : Frank Zappa - Overnite Sensation & Apostrophe (2007) This focuses on Frank Zappa’s early seventies albums Over-nite Sensation (1973) and Apostrophe(’) (1974). Together they encapsulate his extraordinary musical diversity and were also the two most commercially successful albums that he released in his prolific career. The programme uses interviews, musical demonstrations, rare archive and home movie footage plus live performances to tell the story behind the conception and recording of these groundbreaking albums. Queen - 'A Night at the Opera' (2005) This documentary reveals the creative forces that lay behind Queen’s fourth album released in late 1975 and features interviews with Brian, Roger and producer Roy Thomas Baker.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles “Do It Again”: Comic Repetition, Participatory Reception and Gendered Identity on Musical Comedy’s Margins A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology by Samuel Dworkin Baltimore 2013 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION “Do It Again”: Comic Repetition, Participatory Reception and Gendered Identity on Musical Comedy’s Margins by Samuel Dworkin Baltimore Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology University of California, Los Angeles, 2013 Professor Raymond Knapp, Chair This dissertation examines the ways that various subcultural audiences define themselves through repeated interaction with musical comedy. By foregrounding the role of the audience in creating meaning and by minimizing the “show” as a coherent work, I reconnect musicals to their roots in comedy by way of Mikhail Bakhtin’s theories of carnival and reduced laughter. The audiences I study are kids, queers, and collectors, an alliterative set of people whose gender identities and expressions all depart from or fall outside of the normative binary. Focusing on these audiences, whose musical comedy fandom is widely acknowledged but little studied, I follow Raymond Knapp and Stacy Wolf to demonstrate that musical comedy provides a forum for identity formation especially for these problematically gendered audiences. ii The dissertation of Samuel Dworkin Baltimore is approved. Adler, JazzTimes “Rich with ambition and empathetic interplay…the Claudia Quintet doesn’t entirely sound like anybody else. Which is exactly what makes them worth seeking out.” — Chris Barton, Los Angeles Times “…creates gorgeous blends of melody and texture that blur the lines between jazz and contemporary classical.” – Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader “Claudia Quintet has managed to make each successive release somehow different than its predecessor while not losing sight of the markers that define this eclectic and stylistically defiant chamber ensemble. ” – John Kelman, All About Jazz “Soon it will/Be showtime again,” recites Kurt Elling at the outset of the Claudia Quintet’s sixth CD, What Is the Beautiful? “Somebody will paint beautiful faces all over the sky.” The sentiment expressed by those lines, penned by poet/visual artist Kenneth Patchen, captures something of the anticipation proffered by the release of a new Claudia album. Bandleader/percussionist John Hollenbeck’s evocative, richly luminescent compositions definitely possess the suggestive power to encourage listeners to look heavenward, searching for those faces in the sky.
