Dear Andy, What do we need to do when we leave for a doctor’s/dentist’s appointment during school hours? Sincerely, Appointment

Dear Appointment, Bring a note from your parents to school in the morning stating what time they are picking you up for the appointment. Your parents can call on the day of the appointment, but it should be at least 1-2 Emily Wentrof Emma Madden hours before they are coming to get you. The office will make you a pass and have you come down between classes to pick it up. PPageage TThreehree Special Feature STLF Trip By: Rachel Comande Early last month, students from St. Catherine’s High School sophomores-seniors traveled to South Dakota on the annual STLF trip. This year’s motto was travel to the heart to serve the soul, and that’s exactly what students did. STLF stands for “Students Today Leaders Forever,” and everyone on that trip definitely demonstrated their ability to lead through fun activities and service projects. It was certainly not an easy trip and everyone did lots of work. But, in the end, all of the work was worth it. Volunteer projects included fixing up a youth summer camp and Feed My Starving Children-a favorite among all on the trip. After the service projects, students went to a housing site for the night where, joined with the college student leaders, everyone participated in fun activities that really brought people together. By the end of the trip, every felt closer together, and it definitely showed on the last night. For me, the STLF trip was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I have so many great memories, like performing a song from this year’s musical on the lawn at University of Minnesota, shopping with friends at the Mall of America, and of course, helping the world. I would definitely recommended taking this trip next year. If you’re thinking about it, don’t think-just sign up when you can (which will probably be in January 2018). Hope to see you there next year!

They remind us that we are small and there are far more of them than there is of us. They show that there are things out there much bigger than us; things we cannot control. We cannot control the stars, and I thought about this the night I went with my best friend to a pier on the lake. It was dark out, and the night was cold, and it felt like the wind carried ice with it. I did not care, as I was too busy staring at the glittering deep blue water that spread out around us. The stars were reflected on the lake, and the only sound my friend and I could hear was the splash of waves against the pier. Occasionally the splash of the water would reach us, showering us with tiny drops of icy water. We looked up at the black sky dotted with bright stars. It was a beautiful night, and I appreciated it for everything that it was.
