Reception by our partner and drive to the National Park of Tikal. Visit the excavation site. Tikal is located in the tropical rainforest of El Petén and considered the most spectacular and the most popular destination in the Mundo Maya. Experience the feeling of being up close to the volcano and watch the little clouds of smoke rising from the crater of the still active volcano. We descend into the crater of another volcano located on the lake where we will have lunch later. In the afternoon we will visit the Joyas Cerén, one of the most important pre-Hispanic settlements in the area. This settlement was buried 1,400 years ago from the ashes of the Caldera volcano. Buildings of adobe (clay bricks), with fossilized beans, knives made of obsidian and jade, and deer bones were found there. Joya de Cerén was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the visit return to San Salvador and accommodation at the selected hotel (B) (L) DAY 13 SAN SALVADOR - SUCHITOTO After breakfast, visit to the capital of El Salvador with its newer residential areas, the town centre, the historical monuments, and the shopping area. Continue to Suchitoto, about 44 km away from the capital. The city, from where you can look directly at the Suchitlán Lake has beautiful, paved roads that go very well with the pastel-coloured houses with wrought iron doors. Lunch. The afternoon is at leisure. (B) (L) DAY 14 SUCHITOTO - CHINANDEGA - BORDER EL GUASAULE - LEON After breakfast, we head towards Amatillo at the border. On the way, we see the cities Usulután and . In addition, we enjoy on this route the beautiful views of the volcanic chain of El Salvador with four volcanoes. Then we cross the border with Nicaragua at El Guasaule. We continue our trip to the city of León. Hotel accommodation and registration. Overnight (B) DAY 15 LEON - MANAGUA The colonial city of León is famous because of its university status and its architecture. León is the first town founded in America by the Spanish "Conquistadores". Leon was the intellectual cradle of the great poet Rubén Darío, Father of Modernism and Prince of Castilian literature. We will see, among other things, the most important churches: La Recolección, El Calvario and the beautiful cathedral where the remains of Ruben Darío rest. We climb to the dome and enjoy the beautiful views of the volcanic chain. Continue to Managua. On the way, we see the ancient ruins of León Viejo (Old León), which were buried in a volcanic eruption. Once in Managua, visit of the city with some of the museums, the historic centre, the Lake Managua, the Presidential House, the Loma de Tiscapa and the Palace of Culture. DAY 16 MANAGUA - MASAYA - GRANADA Today we take a trip to the National Park of the volcano Masaya and its Museum of Natural History. Free time for hiking or photography. Continue to Granada, with its beautiful and majestic colonial architecture from the 18th Century. Even today, there are horse coaches through the narrow streets, which transport us into the past. Thus, we get a slightly more specific idea of the customs during the Spanish "conquest". City tour with the church and the archaeological museum of the San Francisco Monastery, the Cathedral, the Xalteva church, the Church of La Merced, the Church of Guadalupe, the fortress of the pulver and other colonial buildings with great architecture. We watch the fumaroles of the volcano with its effluent gases and hike the paths of the "Bosque Enano" (dwarf forest). Its name derives from the words ome (two) and tepetl (mountain), meaning "two mountains". The two volcanoes (known as Volcán Concepción and Volcán Maderas) are joined by a low isthmus to form one island in the shape of an hourglass, dumbbell or peanut. The island has an economy based on livestock, agriculture, and tourism. Today the ascent to the Maderas volcano up to the summit is on the program. If you want to, and the climate allows, you can swim in the lagoon. Late afternoon return to the hotel in Ometepe. (B) DAY 20 OMETEPE - PUEBLOS BLANCOS - MANAGUA After breakfast at the hotel, drive to the port and cross with the ferry to Managua. En-route, visit the pueblos blancos (white villages) of Diria, Diriomo, San Juan de Oriente, Catarina, Niquinohomo, Masatepeque, San Marcos, and Jinotepeque Diriamba which lie side by side and show a lot of the Indian folklore. Here awaits you medicine men of white magic, handicrafts from clay, wood and bambú, traditional sweets, as well as the most delicious soups in the region. Everything from the Chorotega culture.
