2015 ANNUAL REPORT a report on donor impact in the Archdiocese of Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge FOREWORD FROM ARCHBISHOP MARK COLERIDGE It’s astonishing to think of the effect the Catholic Church has had in Brisbane since the first bishop came from Ireland in 1861. When Bishop James Quinn arrived in Brisbane, his first question was, “Where is the city?” He had every reason to ask, because Brisbane was hardly more than a shanty town, far from the bustling metropolis we know today. Bishop Quinn and the five Mercy Sisters who followed from Dublin nourished the community in faith; they planted the seeds. They were not well-resourced; the seeds they sowed were humble. The Catholic community here has known hard times – not just in the early days but through it all. Our Catholic forebears never baulked at bold decisions or hard work, which is why the Archdiocese has been so blessed. Through all the challenges and changes, the power of faith has triumphed. We need only look at the buildings – the schools, the hospitals, the cathedral and the many churches – to see the physical signs of what has been accomplished. But the story continues; it’s not just a thing of the past. In the pages that follow you can read the story of what faith is achieving now, a story of bold decisions, hard work and great generosity. Today we see an Archdiocese that has borne fruit because of seeds “In the pages that follow planted by those who went before us. To them we owe an immense debt of gratitude. Following in their footsteps in very different times, you can read the story we hope and pray that in the soil of south-east Queensland we too can plant good seed that will bear great fruit. of what faith is achieving I ask that you join me in holding in prayer all those who have spread God’s love and mercy by sharing their resources with the Catholic now, a story of bold Foundation or dedicating their energies to its indispensable work. decisions, hard work and As always in the Lord, great generosity.“ Archbishop of Brisbane 2 Fr Paul Chandler baptises Monica at Mary Immaculate Church, Annerley Ekibin Catholic Parish “Through all the challenges and changes, the power of faith has triumphed.“ 3 Snapshot of 2015 SNAPSHOT OF 2015 $7.3million DONATED IN 2015 cations Annual Catholic Campaign Vo 3 funds $2,828,261 PARI SH 100 ES sation parishes and Church eli 5 funds ng $ a 429,229 communities v E 2 funds $627,508 T N N E O M I E T R I A T C E U 2 funds R D $ E D 2 funds 4,038,358 N A $ H 2,535,574 LT EA PRIESTS' H $1,133,590 raised through the Archdiocese of Brisbane in the Endowment Annual Catholic Campaign 14 Funds aith s g f oc $ in i et iv Catholic 133,390 L y Foundation distributed to grant recipients Number of welcomes monthly donors $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ increased by 1313 $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ NEW DONORS 1099 grants awarded to parishes 16 and grassroots ministries 4 33 Mapping the gifts across the 96 Childers Archdiocese of Brisbane Hervey Bay 61 17 Donors Maryborough Gayndah 7431 in 2015 Others 96 119 Unknown Caboolture 70 4 21 Schools Gympie 20 Staff orkplacew giving Murgon 50 Noosa District 53 39 Diocese of Cairns Burpengary 32 Maroochydore 142 Diocese of Rockhampton Kingaroy Nambour 57 156 40 Diocese of Toowoomba Nanango 187 Caloundra 92 Diocese of Townsville Redclie 218 11 Stanley River 75 Petrie Section 2 Bracken Pine 65 Ridge Rivers Bald Hills 5 62 Sandgate 53 Brighton Esk Albany 110 Creek 43 Geebung Section 1 Aspley 124 45 115 Banyo Brisbane Nundah 129 103 Gatton Laidley Grovely Samford 167 Chermside Zillmere Mitchelton Wavell Heights Beaudesert Wynnum 84 Boonah 30 74 Manly 48 23 Birkdale 61 47 Cleveland Alexandra Hills Capalaba Ipswich Darra 97 Jindalee Leichhardt 68 North Ipswich 50 Rosewood 73 Rochedale Victoria Point 25 171 63 Inala 2 Section Goodna Woodridge 39 Booval 11 14 8 Daisy Hill 53 Springeld Kingston Regents Marsden 44 Loganholme Park 54 Beenleigh 1 n 108 52 io Staord Kedron t 104 66 c Clayeld 91 e Lutwyche S Wooloowin Hendra Hamilton 153 21 Wilston 97 Dorrington Gordon Park Jubilee 10 68 St John’s Wood 51 The Gap 231 Bowen Hills Coomera Bulimba 1 43 Emmanuel 67 New Farm 53 Runaway Bay 62 Cannon Hill Sth Brisbane 211 West End 79 Dutton Park Brisbane Cathedral 169 Kangaroo Point Carina Toowong Southport 74 155 69 117 59 Coorparoo Camp Hill 43 52 6Beaudesert 185 Indooroopilly St Lucia Mt Carmel Regina Caeli Nerang 119 Buranda St James Surfers Kenmore 90 Paradise 87 21 Annerley Yeronga Holland Park Mt Gravatt 60 Burleigh Moorooka 175 124 Salisbury Heads Corinda 142 Upper Mt Gravatt Wishart Coolangatta 76 97 Tugun Darra 267 Jindallee Sunnybank Acacia Ridge 68 Rochedale 5 The Annual Catholic Campaign Summary of your contributions to Your gifts to the Annual Catholic Campaign made a THE ANNUAL difference to the lives of CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN real people Everyday people came together supporting the Church,s mission Right across the Archdiocese of Brisbane the faithful came together to support the Annual Catholic Campaign in 2015.
