Canadian Club Brand Centre Canadian Club’s Dock No. 57 whisky was inspired by the historic dock from which Canadian Club export manager, Bill “The Real” McCoy, shipped CC whisky to the U.S. during Prohibition. In those days, Al Capone would regularly sneak into Windsor to order supplies of Canadian Club whisky. When in town, he kept a low profile and wanted a private out-of-the-way spot to conduct business. Hiram Walker’s personal wine cellar – which today has been converted to simulate a 1920s-era speakeasy – is said to be 3the room where Capone placed his booze orders.

Because when it comes to amazing culinary experiences, you’ll find that we bring an incredibly diverse and delectable selection to the table. Our menu of options spans virtually every type of cuisine with authentic ethnic flavors ranging from Italian to Indian, Middle Eastern to Mexican, and just about anything else you could possibly be in the mood for. Take a stroll through Windsor’s Via Italia on Erie Street and indulge in some of the best pasta, pizza and panini you can get without crossing the ocean. Feed your appetite for the exotic in Chinatown and Little Vietnam along Wyandotte Street West in Windsor. Further down the road, in the neighbourhoods of Wyandotte Street East, feast on Middle Eastern delights such as shish tawook, fattoush and tabouli. If you’re simply feeling like traditional hearty fare and a pint or two, stop into one of our historic pubs in Old Walkerville or Sandwich Town. For a casual yet upscale dining experience, make a reservation at The City Grill, the gem of Downtown Windsor. Even more appetizing than this amazing variety is the fact that our restaurants and chefs are committed to using locally grown and produced ingredients whenever possible. This only makes sense when you consider that Windsor Essex Pelee Island is blessed with some of the best agricultural conditions in Canada, including a temperate lake-cooled climate on par with Northern California and vast expanses of rich arable soils. Combine that with our local expertise in naturally raising livestock and a proud century-old farming tradition and you have the perfect recipe for a genuine “farm to fork” culinary approach. Beyond the unmatched freshness this offers, there’s a real sense of pride and passion that comes from sourcing local. In restaurants like Rino’s Kitchen, a rustic downtown Windsor gastropub nestled in a 100-year old heritage house, you’ll discover gourmet dishes that not only incorporate but truly celebrate the bounty of our region’s farmers, butchers, bakers, grocers and vintners. Can you actually taste this kind of local pride? Just take one bite and see for yourself. From our farmer’s markets to food festivals, chef demonstrations to cooking classes – and of course, in each one of our restaurants, bistros and pubs – the culinary skill, knowledge and passion of our region is always generously served up. We welcome you to dig in!

Showcasing the highly-acclaimed Kingsville dining scene, this incredible culinary restaurant group brings together some of Southwestern Ontario’s best restaurants, including Main Grill and Ale House, Vernon’s Tap & Grill, Victorian Rose Tea Room & Restaurant, Annabelle’s Restaurant, Jack’s Gastropub, and Mettawas Station, just to name a few. 5858 visitwindsoressex.com PROHIBITION What’ll you have? During the Prohibition era, if any kind of alcohol was the answer to that question, chances were the glass was filled thanks to distilleries right here. During those “dry” days, when making, selling and consuming alcohol was banned in the United States, the flow of Canadian booze across the Detroit River kept speakeasies and blind pigs well stocked. From 1920 to 1933, rum running came alive and reached epic proportions with Windsor serving as a major smuggling point. In fact, it has been estimated that as much as 75% of the alcohol consumed in America during Prohibition was transported on waterways between Windsor and Detroit. These days, it might be hard to imagine what Prohibition and those wild rum running days were really like. But to get a genuine taste of this colourful era, all you have to do is visit the Canadian Club Brand Centre. Located along the waterfront in the heart of Old Walkerville, the Canadian Club Brand Centre offers tours designed to give you a vivid picture of the Prohibition era and key figures such as Hiram Walker and Al Capone. The 1½ hour tour takes you back in time, and explores Hiram Walker and his distilling empire, including his personal friendships with some of the biggest names in history, such as Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. You’ll have the opportunity to walk through the basement Speak Easy room, where meetings were held with Al Capone and The Purple Gang. You’ll visit Hiram’s private Sampling Room, view his collection of Canadian art featuring works from the Group of Seven, and of course, enjoy a formal whisky tasting of Canadian Club’s finest. It truly is a memorable experience, perfect for connoisseurs of fine spirits and history buffs alike. The Rum Runners Tour in Windsor is another fun and unique way to get a firsthand experience of what Prohibition was like. You’ll be immersed in the Roaring Twenties as you cruise on a private tour bus, visiting local rum running landmarks such as speakeasies and mansions, while costumed actors share stories about bootlegging and secret hideouts. The tour includes dinner and entertainment. Visit www.rumrunnerstour.com for more information.
