Wayne County Community Foundation’s future vitality and stability depend on continuing to increase our permanent funds. A strong endowment assures that WCCF will be here to respond to the changing needs of Wayne County for many years to come. An endowed fund established now will, in the future, improve lives and positively influence the quality of life in our communities in ways that we can only imagine today. Endowed funds are invested to grow in value while the original gift remains intact. As the fund grows, a portion of the earnings can be used to make grants to meet community needs. Your gift – along with all future earnings – is a permanent source of community capital, helping do good work today and in the future. With a permanently endowed fund, you can “give it away and still keep it.”

11 Flo K. Gault Scholarship Fund Honoring a passion for education

Born in Canal Fulton, Ohio in 1927, Flo Lucille Kurtz Gault believed all her life in the power of education to change lives for the better. An avid reader and excellent student, Flo was inspired by her high school English teacher to attend The College of Wooster. It was there she met her future husband, Stanley C. Gault, who had grown up in the town of Wooster. The pair graduated in 1948 and married a year later. Flo earned a bachelor’s degree in English and went on to become a secondary school English teacher. As the couple expanded their family, Flo left professional teaching to raise their three children: Stephen, Christopher, and Jennifer. During this time, she was also a champion for her husband’s career. When Stan made the decision to return to Wooster as the CEO of Rubbermaid, Inc., Stan and Flo made Wooster their permanent home and became fully engaged in the Wayne County community. At the time of her graduation from The College of Wooster, the Independent Study (I.S.) Program had just been introduced, and was not yet a requirement for all graduates. Flo did not exercise the option then, but 40 years later, she returned to complete an I.S., entitled “The Wesleyan Influence on Two 19th Century Authors.” It was during this time Flo realized the importance of having individual study carrels for students. She was the inspiration and driving force behind the Flo K. Gault Library for Independent Study on The College of Wooster’s campus. Stan and Flo were partners in the planning and decision-making involved in dozens of projects and programs that have had an enormous positive impact on the Wooster community, and Wayne County as a A life-long learner, Flo continued to study and research her whole. “I challenge you to make philanthropy a significant part of your lives. You don’t need to have great wealth to be generous. And you will find that just doing what you can do—whether it’s a little or a lot—will bring rewards that far outweigh the monetary value of your gifts.”
