    A chromosomal analysis of 15 species of Gymnopleurini, Scarabaeini and Coprini (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) R. B. Angus, C. J. Wilson & D. J. Mann The karyotypes of one species of Gymnopleurini, two Scarabaeini, five Onitini and seven Coprini are described and illustrated. Gymnopleurus geoffroyi, Scarabaeus cristatus, S. laticollis, Bubas bison, B. bubalus, B. bubaloides, Onitis belial, O. ion, Copris lunaris, Microcopris doriae, M. hidakai and Helopcopris gigas all have karyotypes with 2n=18 + Xy. Copris hispanus and Paracopris ����������ramosiceps have karyotypes with 2n=16 + Xy and Copris sinicus has a karyotype comprising 2n=12 + Xy. Heterochromatic B-chromosomes have been found in Bubas bubalus. Spanish material of Bubas bison lacks the distal heterochromatic blocks found in most of the chromosomes of Italian specimens. Elephant dung was inspected for beetles by manually pulling apart dung present at elephant salt licks. Two sites were visited on 3 occasions and at least 20 piles of dung were inspected on each visit. 11 taxa of dung beetle were collected, Copris numa, Cp. bellator, Cp. doriae, Copris sp., Heliocopris tyrannus, Liatongus femoratus, Paragymnopleurus maurus, Sisyphus thoracicus, Onthophagus mulleri, O. rutilans and Megatelus sp. Most species were from the large tunnelers class in comparison to small tunnelers that tend to dominate other types of dung. While this is merely a preliminary sample, most of the species encountered have not been found in locations where elephants are absent. Larva of Campsiura nigripennis, a flower beetle was found to dwell inside the dung. The larvae were successfully bred to adulthood in elephant dung in laboratory conditions. Predatory Histeridae were found to also oviposit on the dung, in which the larvae preyed on other beetle and fly larva. One larva in a dung ball possibly belonging to Paragymnopleurus sp.

Gymnopleurus geoffroyi, Scarabaeus cristatus, S. laticollis, Bubas bison, B. bubalus, B. bubaloides, Onitis belial, O. ion, Copris lunaris, Microcopris doriae, M. hidakai and Helopcopris gigas all have karyotypes with 2n=18 + Xy. Copris hispanus and Paracopris ����������ramosiceps have karyotypes with 2n=16 + Xy and Copris sinicus has a karyotype comprising 2n=12 + Xy. Heterochromatic B-chromosomes have been found in Bubas bubalus. Spanish material of Bubas bison lacks the distal heterochromatic blocks found in most of the chromosomes of Italian specimens. SÁNCHEz4 Resumen: Con la finalidad de inventariar la fauna de escarabajos lamelicornios en el norte de Sinaloa, entre julio y diciembre de 2008 se realizaron colectas con trampas de luz en tierras de cultivo, bosque caducifolio, bosque espinoso y matorral xerófilo, establecidos entre los 8 y 84 m de altitud en ocho localidades de los municipios de Ahome y El Fuerte, Sinaloa. Se obtuvieron 38.619 ejemplares que representan a 29 especies de los géneros Phyllophaga, Diplotaxis, Paranomala, Pelidnota, Cyclocephala, Dyscinetus, Strategus, Xyloryctes, Ligyrus, Oxygrylius, Megasoma, Omorgus, Copris, Digitonthophagus, Dichotomius, Hybosorus y Ptichopus. la mayor riqueza correspondió a Phyllophaga, repre- sentado por 10 especies, entre las que predomina Phyllophaga opaca. las especies mas abundantes en las zonas de estu- dio fueron: Cyclocephala sinaloae (45,06%), Oxygrylius ruginasus (28,66%), Phyllophaga opaca (25,03%) y Ph. cris- tagalli (0,24%). la mayor abundancia de todas se presentó en julio (51,38%) lo cual coincidió con el inicio del periodo de lluvias. la mayor riqueza se observó en el Cerro de las Microondas, con 17 especies capturadas. Phyllophaga yaqui, Diplotaxis ambigua, Dyscinetus picipes y Xyloryctes corniger se registran por primera vez para el estado de Sinaloa. Palabras clave: Dynastinae. Hybosoridae. Melolonthinae. Dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: subfamilies Scarabaeinae and Aphodiinae) are an important component in ecosystems. The author randomly sampled fall-active dung beetles in Lick Creek Park located in College Station, Texas for approximately three hours in the afternoon of 8 November 2014 in order to assess the number of species and how many of each species were present. The apparent feeding preferences of each species are also discussed. Beetles not belonging to the subfamilies Aphodiinae or Scarabaeinae were excluded. Genera included Onthophagus (Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae), Canthon (Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae), Aphodius (Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae) and Pseudagolius (Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae). All species determinations were made by the author. The species present included Onthophagus hecate (Panzer), O. medorensis Brown, O. tuberculifrons Harold, O. gazella (Fabricius), Pseudagolius bicolor (Say), Aphodius fimetarius (Linnaeus), and Canthon viridis (Palisot de Beauvois).
