Operation Graduation News!

As we come closer to the end of the journey for our seniors and struggle with deciding which university or career path our children take, we also plan on celebrating their accomplishment during graduation. Many will choose to travel with their loved ones and friends while others will choose to relax with their friends and family. Operation Graduation wants to celebrate these last moments in high school for our students and their friends and provide a safe environment where they come together for what may be their last memories of high school. We have committed with Main Event for Wednesday, May 30th at 11:00 PM until 5:00am. They have upgraded their menu this year which the students will surely enjoy after their graduation ceremony. In addition to the fantastic video games, billiards, bowling, and karaoke, we’d planned to bring door prizes, photo booth, poker tables, candy bar, and a DJ for their entertainment throughout the night, but at this time after we had worked hard trying to get donations, our goal is becoming a bit harder to reach. This has been a hard year for Texas in general. Harvey came and our community was hit hard, families and businesses alike. The donations have been smaller than previous years. We are grateful for all the donations we have received and we know that our students and parents work really hard volunteering their time to support our organization but we need a hand from you parents. If you find it in your heart, and your family or business can afford it, please think about donating to the “OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL OPERATION GRADUATION”. This is an amazing event where around 400-500 students get together and enjoy their last night of the best time of their life. They dance, sing, play video games, bowl and play billiards. They are not shy or ashamed to be themselves because they are with their friends with whom for years past have been sharing their life experiences together. They love the prizes. They make plans of what they want to win and why. In some cases when they win, it’s great to hear how grateful they are because they otherwise couldn’t afford to have the item as a graduation gift or for their college dorm. It’s really a great fun experience that keeps our kids safe the night of graduation, and as a bonus, we make a few kids’ wishes come true. If you want to donate, please mail your check to the school:

THANK YOU YMCA!!!!!! Roxanne Davis from the YMCA attended our meeting on Thursday to present a donation from “RUN THROUGH THE WOODS.” An interesting fact was shared with us that the run was actually started by the Oak Ridge High School PTO many years ago. Roxanne (who was a PTO and Op Grad mom herself years ago) is one of the leaders of the run that helps so many high school organizations like ours. Thank you to the Y, and especially Roxanne, for the hard work you do for our community. She’s a testament of the power that parents have to help the community. We can all make a difference like Roxanne does every day. Hats off to Roxanne and thank you for your service!!!

Thank you for all your support and God Bless, Dennisse Calcano – Operation Graduation President
