Khan Zone and Bahawalpur Zone, but no positive · On 2.8.2010 gauge was 11.5 ft with discharge of 10 lac cusecs; response was received. The apprehension became true when Zamindara Bund breached on · On 3.8.2010 the flood turned into exceptional high flood with gauge at the night of 6th and 7th August, 2010, water attacked the main LMB in the night of 7th and Chachran 12.6 ft with the discharge of 12 lac cusecs. 8th August, 2010 between 01:00 a.m. to 04:00 a.m. At 13/0 water overtopped the bund which resulted in breach and remaining 04 leaks developed into breaches at mile 9/6, 10/1, 2.5. Finally, the reduction in flood was observed from 10.08.2010 to 12.08.2010. The 10/4 & 10/5. flood rose again on 13.08.2010 and remained up till 23.08.2010 in exceptional high flood position. The resulting damage caused in District Rahim Yar Khan could have been be avoided. 2.7.1. At Gudu Barrage the normal flood was upto 18.07.2010. The river was in low flood from 19.07.2010 to 03.08.2010, then it entered in medium flood from 3.8.2010 2.12. One of the most common omissions that has surfaced during these floods is the to 04.08.2010. It remained in high flood level from 04.08.2010 to 05.08.2010 and absence of wetting channels. The embankments like Jampur Bund have been dry for years crossed in very high and super flood stage on the same day i.e., on 5.8.2010. The and therefore failed to withstand the watery onslaught. river discharge of super flood on 05.08.2010 was recorded at 12:00 mid night to 20.08.2010 at 04:00 p.m. with maximum 1st peak of 11,48,738 cusecs on 08.08.2010 3. RECOMMENDATIONS at 11:00 a.m. and 2nd peak of 10,76,728 cusecs on 16.08.2010 at 06:00 p.m. After 20th August 2010 the flood slowly subsided. 3.1. The current research intends to study the hydro morphologic features (meanders, shape, and size) of Indus River, Pakistan by using remote sensing (RS) and geographical information science (GIS) techniques to calculate the temporal changes. Landsat satellite imagery was used for qualitative and analytical study. Satellite imagery was acquired from Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM), Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) and Operational Land Imager (OLI). Temporal satellite imagery of study area was used to identify the variations of river morphology for the years 1988,1995,2002,2009 and 2017. Research was based upon the spatial and temporal change of river pattern with respect to meandering and flow pattern observations for 30 years’ temporal data with almost 7 years’ interval. Image preprocessing was applied on the imagery of the study area for the better visualization and identification of variations among the objects. Object-based image analysis technique was performed for better results of a feature on the earth surface. Model builder (Arc GIS) was used for calculation of temporal variation of the river. In observation many natural factor involves for pattern changes such as; floods and rain fall.

However, this institution prospered in the times of Muslim rulers and Kings and provided a concrete foundation to seekers for spiritual knowledge and intellectual debate. Sufism in South Punjab also has an impressive history of religious, spiritual, social, and political achievements during Muslim dynasties.

  • Arsenic Monitoring in District Rahim Yar Khan
MONITORING ARSENIC CONTAMINATION IN DRINKING WATER OF DISTRICT RAHIM YAR KHAN By Aftab Ahmad1, M. Jahangir2 and A. M. H. Kango3 Abstract Arsenic contamination was observed in the drinking water of Pakistan in different studies conducted by the national and international agencies. It was observed that southern Punjab and central Sindh are the most affected areas in Pakistan. For the first time in Pakistan UNICEF took initiative and conducted Arsenic Testing Survey in 1998. It was decided to have blanket survey in the affected areas and collect and analyze 24088 water samples from the three Tehsils of district Rahim Yar Khan in the year 2005. In the present study drinking water sources were monitored in those union councils which were found contaminated with Arsenic in the previous study. 31 union councils were monitored out of total 122 UCs from three tehsils of district Rahim Yar khan covering a total of 599 villages/basties. These were the union councils (except Amin Ghar and Jeetha Bhuta) where arsenic above 50 ppb was found in drinking water sources (2004). Three Tehsils of district Rahim Yar Khan i.e. Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad and Khan Pur were monitored. All the samples were collected by the Health Department field staff with the collaboration of HRDS and supported by UNICEF. Local community was also involved in this activity. Three different Arsenic field testing kits were used i.e. Merck, Wegtech and PCRWR. All the data collected by the field teams was stored in DHO Office Rahim Yar Khan. 23234 samples were tested by the kits in field where as 1141 samples collected for validation and sent out to PCRWR Bahawalpur laboratory.
