Apologies: Gareth Turner (Bedford Borough Council Highways Department) 1. Consider the introduction of a 50mph limit on Bushmead Road All the parish councils represented supported the introduction of reduced speed limits on the Bushmead Road to a maximum of 50mph but KH suggested it should be 40mph in places. They recounted witnessing several nasty accidents on the road (one requiring an airlift to hospital). They also recounted many near misses some of which they believed were due to large HGV’s passing at speed when the road is not wide enough and cars being forced into the middle of the road by potholes. They acknowledged that recent repairs had improved the worst areas of the road but were concerned that some areas with failing patches had not been addressed. Andrew Prigmore explained that the worst areas had been repaired at a cost of approximately £70K but they had to choose the worst areas due to their limited budget. He reported that police data showed that none of the accidents on the road had been directly caused by excess speed.

On 26 July 1985 we wrote to Bedfordshire County Council announcing our intention to undertake a review of the County under section 48{1) of the Local Government Act 1972. Copies of the letter were sent to the principal local authorities, and parishes, in Bedfordshire and in the surrounding counties of Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire; to the National and County Associations of Local Councils; to the Members of Parliament with constituency interests and to the headquarters of the main political parties. In addition, copies were sent to those government departments, regional health authorities, water authorities, and electricity and gas boards which might have an interest, as well as to British Telecom, the English Tourist Board, the local government press and to local television and radio stations serving the area. 2. The County Councils were requested, in co-operation as necessary with the other local authorities, to assist us in publicising the start of the review by inserting a notice for two successive weeks in local newspapers so as to give a wide coverage in the areas concerned.

Public Meeting Regarding Bedford Borough’s Local Plan & Dennybrook PLEASE ATTEND! Tuesday 17th August at 7.30pm in Colmworth Village Hall, MK44 2JX Our planning consultant James Tipping of Parker Planning will be available to answer questions and hear your voices. Please bring your questions to the meeting. Consultation response to Dennybrook You should have received a summary leaflet in the post from Bedford Borough Council entitled “Local Plan 2040”. It describes 4 outline proposals for housing development. If you have not received a leaflet please contact 01234 718 070 to request one. You can also request paper consultation forms. As you are aware, we are working together as a community to protect our rural parish in response to this proposed housing development stretching over 700 acres of farmland. Thanks to all the generous donations from residents we have been able to commission a planning consultancy, Parker Planning to help write our objection and mitigation statement. They will respond to the Parish Council on 20th August but we would like residents to start writing letters now. You can always amend your response later if you wish – up to the deadline of 3rd September. We believe it is vital that as many residents as possible respond to the consultation before the deadline on 3rd September. The Parish Council have been granted an extension until 17th September but this does NOT apply to residents so please respond before 3rd September. Colmworth Parish Council Complaints Procedure Complaints about the Parish Council: Any member of the public who has a complaint about the Parish Council should send their complaint in writing using the Colmworth Parish Council Complaints Form to the Parish Clerk Mrs Lucy Crawford, 33, Staploe, St. Neots, Cambs. PE19 5JA or send it to her on e-mail at [email protected] The Clerk will make all Parish Councillors aware of the complaint and the Clerk will acknowledge the complaint within 5 working days to explain what action will be taken. This may involve discussing it at the next parish council meeting. The Clerk will then report back on any outcomes or decisions taken as a result of the complaint.
