Last week, seventh graders Katy Felsburg, Gabby Kinnick, Aleena LaPerriere, Juliana Santillan, and Abby Seitz performed for the 4th graders as members of Mr. White’s Acting Troop. Their performance included scenes one and three from the musical Annie and was then followed by two improvisational games, the Party Game and Freeze Tag. The students are participating in the drama elective available in junior high this quarter. Our early childhood had a wonderful visit last Wednesday with Dr. Moran from Canton Center Animal Clinic. She started out teaching the students about animal safety and signs to look for if an animal is uncomfortable with a situation. She then showed the students real x-rays of pets in her clinic. Lastly, she brought in her 16 year old cat, Spunky, which she let every student take a turn petting. Fifth graders also performed Humility Skits in religion last week. They learned that being humble helps us to be considerate to people around us, listen to others, and what it truly means to put others before ourselves. The students were asked to create 1-3 minute skits which depicted a modern-day example of humility. The students were inspired by one of the biggest acts of humility that ever happened on earth - when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. The fifth grade students are learning about the religions of Japan in social studies. Last Tuesday, students created origami figures as a Shinto art form because the paper is never cut with scissors or knives out of respect for the tree spirit that gave its life for the paper. Our first graders used the iPad app Epic! last week to conduct important esearchr for their animal reports and prepare for habitat day! On Friday, the kindergarten classes celebrated the culmination of studying a unit about Pilgrims and Native American culture. The kids chose to be either a Pilgrim or a Native American and made the corresponding paper outfit in advance to wear. The students made dreamcatchers, a construction paper Mayflower ship, and beaded necklaces. They also had a chance to “hunt” paper deer and buffalo with plastic archery sets. At the end of the day, the kindergartners enjoyed a feast. Before eating, the kids exchanged the necklaces they made with a classmate as a sign of friendship.
