BRENT CROSS THAMESLINK PART OF THE BRENT CROSS CRICKLEWOOD DEVELOPMENT INTRODUCTION The £4.5 billion Brent Cross Cricklewood N Central development is Barnet Council’s most significant London growth and regeneration programme. It will create a new sustainable mixed use town centre for Barnet and North London. Clitterhouse Playing Fields This regeneration is underpinned by major transport improvements, including an Midland Main Line (between King’s additional new Thameslink railway station Cross St Pancras and connecting to King’s Cross St Pancras in under Brent Terrace Bedford/the Midlands) Edgware Road 15 minutes. The Brent Cross Thameslink project includes: • An additional Thameslink station between Cricklewood and Hendon stations; Brent South • Relocated sidings and stabling (train storage) facilities; Shopping Park • A new pedestrian bridge providing 24 hour access across the railway; • A Waste Transfer Station; • A Rail Freight Facility; • A new vehicle and pedestrian bridge across the Midland Main Line; • Junction improvement works on the A5 Edgware Road. Thameslink Station Midland Main Line Bridge Thameslink Sidings (Indicative Area) This allows them to be delivered earlier in the programme than previously planned with the station due to open in 2022 rather than 2031. N • Building the station earlier supports the comprehensive regeneration of the Brent Cross Cricklewood area and helps to unlock the economic and employment benefits associated with the development sooner • Current and future residents will be able to use the new Thameslink station sooner and benefit from better public transport links and reduced journey times to central London NORTH CIRCULAR • Opening the new bridge earlier will improve links between the Brent Cross Cricklewood EDGWARE ROAD development, the Edgware Road and Brent Waste Transfer Station Rail Freight Facility THE THAMESLINK AREA Consultation Materials July 2017 BRENT CROSS THAMESLINK PART OF THE BRENT CROSS CRICKLEWOOD DEVELOPMENT WASTE TRANSFER STATION UPDATE Outline planning permission was granted for a Waste Handling Facility as part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood Masterplan. This would be to replace the Photovoltaic Cells (solar existing Hendon Waste Transfer Station. panels) - to generate sustainable energy and We now propose to deliver a facility which is significantly smaller than the provide a shelter for wildlife one previously approved, where recycling, food and household waste will be collected and transferred to other processing centres. At the last round of events in April 2017 we presented initial proposals covering the design and operation of this facility. Rooflights - to provide as much natural light as We have now undertaken further design work and can provide an update on how these draft plans possible for the facility have been developed further: Green Screen between the WTS and • A green screen will be provided the A5 Edgware Road between the site and the A5 Edgware Road, further encouraging biodiversity whilst Illustrative aerial view of the WTS also acting as a landscaped buffer between the site and road • It is intended that the BREEAM rating of the facility will be Very Good. BREEAM ratings are a measurement of the sustainability of a development against a range BRENT TERRACE of criteria including energy EDGWARE ROAD efficiency and the tackling of waste and pollution. This facility will be used for the delivery, temporary storage and collection of aggregate materials used in construction (e.g. gravel, crushed stone and sand for making concrete). Some of these materials would be used in the Brent Cross Cricklewood redevelopment but the facility will also be able to support other construction or infrastructure projects in the area. In response to the feedback received at our last round of events in April 2017, a number of amendments have been made to our draft proposals. These are set out on the next board.
