Joan Osborne – All Music Guide Joan Osborne – All Music Guide Singer Joan Osborne was born on July 8, 1962, in the town of Anchorage, KY, but it wasn't until relocating to New York City in the early '90s (to study at NYU's film school) that she began to take a singing career seriously after singing Billie Holiday's classic "God Bless the Child" at a local bar's open-mike night. In addition to Holiday, Osborne looked to such legendary vocalists as Etta James and Ray Charles as role models, as the up-and-coming singer decided not to cater to major record companies and formed her own label, Womanly Hips, which resulted in such releases as 1992's in-concert Soul Show, among others. But eventually Osborne decided to sign on with a major label, Mercury, which in turn issued the singer's next release, Relish, in March 1995. The album proved to have a long life, as almost a year after its initial release the track "One of Us" became a massive MTV and radio smash, camping out at the number one spot on the U.S. singles chart for two weeks, and Relish eventually racked up sales of three million copies. Further tracks ("Right Hand Man" and "St. Teresa") failed to match the success of Osborne's first hit, but the singer still managed to connect with a large and appreciative audience, especially during touring as part of the 1997 edition of Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair tour. Osborne also received numerous Grammy nominations in both 1996 and 1997. Producing a worthy follow-up to Relish proved to be a time-consuming challenge for Osborne. Mercury tried to buy some time by issuing a compilation release, Early Recordings (which collected the early releases Live at Delta '88 and Blue Million Miles). In the meantime, Osborne focused on supporting a few groups/causes she felt strongly about, such as Rock the Vote and Planned Parenthood (eventually being named an honorary member of Planned Parenthood's board of advocates), in addition to covering "I'm Just a Bill" as a duet with Isaac Hayes on the 1998 Schoolhouse Rocks the Vote! benefit album. She also studied briefly with late Qawwali master Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and performed alongside such notables as Stevie Wonder, Melissa Etheridge, Taj Mahal, Luciano Pavarotti, Spearhead, Bob Dylan, and the Chieftains. September 2000 finally saw the release of Osborne's next all-new studio album, titled Righteous Love, which failed to match its predecessor's commercial success and sank from sight shortly after release. She bounced back in 2002 with How Sweet It Is, a collection of covers that leaned heavily on classic soul and R&B tunes from the 1960s and '70s. A career retrospective, One of Us, followed in 2005. Vanguard picked her up shortly after this, and Osborne released her first full-length on that label, a country-tinged effort called Pretty Little Stranger, in 2006. It was followed in 2007 by Breakfast in Bed and in 2008 by Little Wild One. LITTLE WILD ONE - SEPTEMBER 9th, 2008 In a career that spans over fifteen years, Joan has proven to be an artistically restless yet consistently enthralling performer. In 2002, she cemented her reputation as a top tier soul singer with an incredible turn in the acclaimed documentary film 'Standing in the Shadows of Motown,' followed by a tour with legendary Motown backing band The Funk Brothers. In 2003, Osborne toured with the Dixie Chicks and then surprised and wowed audiences touring throughout America for two years as the lead singer for The Dead. In 2007, she graced the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. Osborne loves to sing and perform in many different genres, but she comes back to her soulful rock roots on 'Little Wild One,' her fall release that reunites her Grammy All-Star team of Rick Chertoff and Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian of The Hooters. The team last worked together on Osborne's breakthrough, debut album 'Relish,' which sold five million copies worldwide and yielded the smash hit "One Of Us" as well as scoring six Grammy nominations. – joanosborne.com .

  • The Twenty Greatest Music Concerts I've Ever Seen
THE TWENTY GREATEST MUSIC CONCERTS I'VE EVER SEEN Whew, I'm done. Let me remind everyone how this worked. I would go through my Ipod in that weird Ipod alphabetical order and when I would come upon an artist that I have seen live, I would replay that concert in my head. (BTW, since this segment started I no longer even have an ipod. All my music is on my laptop and phone now.) The number you see at the end of the concert description is the number of times I have seen that artist live. If it was multiple times, I would do my best to describe the one concert that I considered to be their best. If no number appears, it means I only saw that artist once. Mind you, I have seen many artists live that I do not have a song by on my Ipod. That artist is not represented here. So although the final number of concerts I have seen came to 828 concerts (wow, 828!), the number is actually higher. And there are "bar" bands and artists (like LeCompt and Sam Butera, for example) where I have seen them perform hundreds of sets, but I counted those as "one," although I have seen Lecompt in "concert" also. Any show you see with the four stars (****) means they came damn close to being one of the Top Twenty, but they fell just short. So here's the Twenty. Enjoy and thanks so much for all of your input. And don't sue me if I have a date wrong here and there.

The Crown of Madness Prologue Standing silent, the large crowd stared toward the castle door. Each held a red thorny rose, gripping it tightly and drawing blood. They stood there for nearly an hour—no one said a word and no one faltered. At last, the giant entryway opened. A procession of darkly dressed soldiers filed out in a close, uniform line, followed by the king, dressed in all white except for the dark iron crown on his head. Their leader looked tired but proud, defeated yet strong. Each step the king took was methodical. His face unchanging, he stared forward toward the platform in the center of the crowd. The tired man stopped at the edge of the path created through the audience. All but two of the knights continued on to the platform. They knelt down toward the king upon arrival at their destination. A deep, mournful horn sounded from one of the castle towers. It bellowed seven times. Roses were passed and thrown into the opening made for the king. The ground became completely obscured by the bloody flowers and the king began walking. Again, he walked slowly and deliberately, showing only strength though in great anguish. Finally, he arrived at the platform and climbed the short flight of stairs. One knight knelt at the top of the stairs, facing away from the king, and those around the platform stood to turn toward him. One by one, the warriors knelt, shortly followed by the crowd around them. All were on their knees except the king and his appointed executioner.

  • The Hooters + Nordman = Bazilian & Wester
”Bigger Than The Bossa Nova” officiella video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy6T5a1y4aE Hemsida: www.bazilianwester.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/pages/BazilianWester/159160720768235 Moore To Bebygger personliga varumärken. • For Immediate Release July 2019 Trigger Hippy Returns
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 2019 TRIGGER HIPPY RETURNS OCTOBER 11TH WITH FIRST ALBUM IN FIVE YEARS FULL CIRCLE & THEN SOME FEATURING NEW LINE UP Nashville, TN - Rejuvenated artist collective Trigger Hippy is back with their first album in five years, Full Circle & Then Some releasing October 11th via Turkey Grass Records/Thirty Tigers. Led by Black Crowes co-founder/drummer Steve Gorman and bassist/vocalist Nick Govrik, Trigger Hippy, version 2.0, now features Band Of Heathens vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Ed Jurdi and powerhouse vocalist/saxophonist Amber Woodhouse as they write the next chapter. Full Circle & Then Some is the long-awaited follow up to the group’s 2014 self-titled debut, which American Songwriter gave four-stars calling it, “…one of this year’s finest Southern soul-rock releases.” Following the album cycle and ensuing tour, former bandmembers Joan Osborne and Jackie Greene returned to their established solo careers. Govrik, the band’s main songwriter, continued to write and play while also becoming a successful restauranteur. The multi-talented Gorman continued to play music while hosting his Fox Sports Radio show “Steve Gorman Sports!” (which ran for eight years) and finishing his book Hard to Handle: The Life And Death Of The Black Crowes, out this fall. Govrik and Gorman always planned to keep Trigger Hippy going, but it wasn’t until they connected with Jurdi and newcomer Woodhouse, that everything clicked. Full Circle & Then Some finds the band building on a foundation steeped in music that grew out of the South. The unit infuses high energy doses of R&B, funk, blues, rock and gospel with a little Memphis soul and New Orleans boogie tossed into the mix.
