This Instructional JPR Verification Sheet is to be used in conjunction with the Alabama Fire College Fire Fighter II Skill Sheets NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 Edition. Each of these skills should be taught and assessed during the course. This form must be submitted by the Instructor for Certification.

Practical Examination for Certification: Skills testing will be conducted using a minimum of 25% of the JPRs listed below. The skills will be randomly drawn by the Certification Staff and administered by an approved evaluator after all training hours have been completed. For successful completion of the practical examination, a minimum 70% competency (including critical points) is required for certification.

Firefighter I/Volunteer FF Skill Sheet FFI – 1 - 2 Emergency Scene Illumination NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 Edition, 4.3.17 Condition: The candidate, employing all safety precautions, and given fire service electrical generators and portable lighting shall set up and operate the equipment so designated areas are illuminated. 3. Exhales forcefully to ensure exhalation valve is working properly-CRITICAL POINT 4. Dons hood, helmet, and gloves and ensures there is no exposed skin – CRITICAL

Checks to ensure that all hose connections are tight & free of leaks 5. Checks to ensure that the face piece is in good condition & the straps are in the fully extended position 6. Checks to ensure that the harness system is in good condition & that all straps are in the fully extended position 7. Firefighter I/Volunteer FF Skill Sheet FFI – 5 - 4 Changing an Air Cylinder NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 Edition, 4.3.1 Condition: The candidate, wearing full personal protective equipment, shall demonstrate the proper procedure for changing a SCBA air cylinder using the one person method. The candidate may use any SCBA unit available to his/her department.

Criteria/Performance Steps: Test Retest Safely performs the following steps: P F P F 1. Doffs unit using proper procedures 2. Closes cylinder valve on the used bottle and bleeds off pressure - CRITICAL POINT 3. Disconnects the high-pressure coupling from the cylinder and puts the hose coupling on the ground directly in line with the cylinder outlet (ensures grit & liquids can not enter the end of the unprotected high-pressure hose prior to attaching it to the cylinder outlet valve) 4. Releases the cylinder clamp & removes the empty cylinder and places a new cylinder into the backpack

5. Checks cylinder valve opening & the high-pressure hose fitting for debris and checks condition of O-ring – CRITICAL POINT

6. Connects high-pressure hose to cylinder valve opening and opens cylinder valve 7. Checks gauges on cylinder & regulator (ensures they are within 10% of each other)

Firefighter I/Volunteer FF Skill Sheet FFI – 6 - 1 Operating Portable Fire Extinguishers NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 Edition, 4.3.16 Condition: The candidate, wearing full protective equipment and given a selection of portable fire extinguishers, shall extinguish a small Class A, B, OR C fire so that the correct extinguisher is chosen, the fire is completely extinguished, and proper extinguisher handling techniques are followed.
