Hello, Mass Intentions, Readings, Saints

I’m typing this up on Wednesday evening. As Monday, August 6 The Transfiguration of the Lord you may or may not remember, I’m in the Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14; Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 9; middle of my annual family reunion. The 2 Peter 1:16-19; Mark 9:2-10 nieces and nephews have gone to the water park so the house is a lot more quiet. Family Tuesday, August 7 St. Sixtus II & Companions St. Cajetan is so important. As I watch my siblings and my nieces and 30:1-2, 12-15, 18-22; Psalm 102:16-21, 29, nephews (and myself), I’m reminded how important it is that 22-23; :22-36 or 15:1-2, 10-14 we get out from behind our screens (phones, tablets, etc.) 8:30 a.m. Rosary for vocations at St. Joseph and interact with people. People are messy and unpredicta- ble, and sometimes irritating, but it is there in the messiness Wednesday, August 8 St. Dominic of human interaction that our hearts get fed; fed in a way Jeremiah 31:1-7; Jeremiah 31:10-13; :21-28 that Facebook, newsreels, and Snapchats can’t. So get out there and irritate some people…sort of. Thursday, August 9 St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross Jeremiah 31:31-34; Psalm 51:12-15, 18-19; On Friday Samantha Passer and Ted Landsteiner are get- :13-23 ting married at St. Teresa’s. Father Tim Biren will graciously No Adoration or Mass at St. Teresa conduct the wedding ceremony. We will keep Samantha and Ted in our prayers. We pray that they keep Christ at the Friday, August 10 St. Lawrence center of their lives. We pray they grow in love and wisdom :6-10; Psalm 112:1-2, 5-9; John 12:24-26 together. This is the second of three weddings in a row that 10:30 a.m. Mass at MCH Pete & Mary Becker we have at St. Teresa’s this summer. Saturday, August 11 St. Clare Habakkuk 1:12—2:4; Psalm 9:8-13; :14-20 This week we hear a continuation of John 6. Jesus has just fed the 5,000 with only 5 loaves and two fish. He and the 7:30-8:30 a.m. Eucharistic Adoration & Benediction Apostles get in the boat and cross to . The 8:30 a.m. Mass at St. Teresa Irene Massop crowd comes looking for him. Jesus tells them that the real reason they are seeking Him is because of the bread that Sunday, August 12 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time 1 Kings 19:4-8; Psalm 34:2-9; Ephesians 4:30—5:2; He fed them when He fed the 5,000. Jesus tells them to John 6:41-51 work for food that endures for eternal life. They ask how 8:00 a.m. Mass at St. Teresa Ed Kack they can get this food. He tells them to believe in Him, that 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Matthew People of the Tri-Parish He is the Bread of Life that comes down from heaven.

August 12 St. Matthew 10:00 a.m. The journey of discipleship is a life-long exodus from the slavery of Reader: Neil Majeski sin and death to the holiness of truth on Mount Zion, the promised Ministers of Communion: Wendy Bennett, Justin Davis, Darla Graf land of eternal life. The road can get rough. And when it does, we Greeter & Usher: Jon Lewis Family can be tempted to complain like the in this week’s First Servers: Joe Bennett, Layne Davis Reading. We have to see these times of hardship as a test of what Money counters: Maria Sanders & Neil Majeski is in our hearts, a call to trust God more and to purify the motives for our faith (Deuteronomy 8:2–3). August 12 St. Teresa 8:00 a.m. As Paul reminds us in this week’s Epistle, we must leave behind Reader: Ann Langworthy our old self-deceptions and desires and live according to the Ministers of Communion: Don Landsteiner, likeness of God in which we are made. Mary Ellen Larson, Gloria Langworthy Jesus tells the crowd in this week’s Gospel that they are following Greeters: Mike and Jan Samuelson, him for the wrong reasons. They seek him because he filled their Joel and Tracy Schmidt Ushers: Shawn and Sara Wenner Family bellies. The Israelites, too, were content to follow God so long as Servers: AJ Kunkel, Jon Kunkel, Nick Wooldridge, there was plenty of food. and Nathan Trio Food is the most obvious of signs—because it is the most basic of Sacristan: Gloria Langworthy our human needs. We need our daily bread to live. But we cannot Money counters: Jan Sonnek and Jodi Kunkel live by this bread alone. We need the bread of eternal life that Altar Linens: Steph Stencel for August preserves those who believe in Him (Wisdom 16:20, 26). The manna in the wilderness, like the bread Jesus multiplied for Marcie will be working on the new fall ministry the crowd, was a sign of God’s Providence—that we should trust schedule this week. THANK YOU. This is the food that God longs to give us. This is the bread we should be seeking. But too often we don’t ask for this bread. Instead we seek the perishable stuff of our every day wants and anxieties. In our weakness we think these things are what we really need. We have to trust God more. If we seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, all these things will be ours as well (:33).
