C’est avec grand plaisir que nous vous accueillons à la 22e édi- tion de l’International Gymnix où les meilleures gymnastes juniors internationales ont rendez-vous. On se souviendra que lors des récents Jeux olympiques de Lon- dres, l’équipe canadienne olympique a obtenu d’excellents résul- tats grâce à une cinquième position historique au concours par équipe. Le Canada se positionne maintenant de façon très favo- rable sur l’échiquier international. Cet exploit a ouvert la voie à ce que cette 22e édition soit la plus prestigieuse de l’histoire de l’International Gymnix en accueillant la Belgique, le Brésil, la France, le Japon, la Roumanie, la Russie et le Canada dans le cadre de la Coupe Junior. Nous vous invitons à venir assister à cette édition historique et à encourager chaleureusement nos athlètes qui vous promettent un spectacle haut en couleurs ! Nous aimerions remercier chaleureusement tous nos partenaires et commanditaires qui rendent cet événement possible année après année. D’après les récents succès de l’équipe canadienne aux jeux olym- piques de Londres 2012, cet événement promet d’être très exci- tant. L’International Gymnix permet à des athlètes de chez-nous de côtoyer l’élite mondiale, devant leurs partisans, ce qui, à nos yeux, est d’une richesse inégalée. Nous aimerions profiter de l’occasion pour offrir nos plus sincères remerciements au comité organisateur et aux bénévoles qui ont travaillé sans relâche pour mettre sur pied ce prestigieux événe- ment et souhaitons à toutes les athlètes les meilleurs succès. Pour nos athlètes québécois, L’International Gymnix est une occa- sion en or de vivre une expérience internationale dans leur propre province, en plus d’y côtoyer la relève mondiale. D’ailleurs, plu- sieurs athlètes olympiques d’ici et d’ailleurs ont participé à l’évé- nement au cours de leur carrière et nous sommes fiers d’avoir contribué à leur cheminement. En tant que principal bailleur de fonds du système sportif au Ca- nada, notre gouvernement appuie la participation aux activités sportives et l’excellence dans le sport, du terrain de jeu jusqu’au podium. Je tiens à leur souhaiter d’atteindre les buts qu’elles se sont fixés. Toute notre reconnaissance va aux entraineurs, aux accompagna- teurs, aux bénévoles et aux proches des athlètes qui n’ont rien ménagé pour la réussite de ces compétitions. Michael Applebaum Maire de Montréal 9 - L’INTERNATIONAL GYMNIX 2013 - L’INTERNATIONAL L’historique de Podkopayeva l’International Gymnix La compétition de gymnastique artistique féminine L’INTERNA- TIONAL GYMNIX existe depuis 1991. Cet événement unique au Dawes Canada regroupe l’élite canadienne et mondiale dans une at- mosphère de fête alliant performance et amitié. L’une des rares compétitions internationales à offrir un plateau sur podium, cet événement est très couru par les gymnastes canadiennes afin de côtoyer les meilleures au monde. En 1995, un second volet a été créé afin d’accueillir les catégories provinciale et nationale: LA CLASSIQUE GYMNIX. Au cours des éditions précédentes de L’International Gymnix, des gymnastes de renommée internationale ont participé à l’évé- nement, notamment les championnes olympiques de 1996, Li- lia Podkopayeva au total des épreuves et Dominique Dawes au Patterson concours par équipe, la championne olympique 2004 au total des épreuves, Carly Patterson, la championne du monde 2007, Shawn Johnson, la championne du monde 2011 et championne olympique par équipe 2012, Jordyn Wieber ainsi que la cham- pionne du monde 2010 et championne olympique 2012 aux bar- res, Aliya Mustafina. En 2009 et 2010, les gymnastes masculins et féminins du circuit de la Coupe du Monde ont fait un arrêt à Montréal pour la pre- Johnson mière fois depuis les Championnats du monde de 1985. Le public montréalais a été émerveillé par les performances de ces athlètes lors de ces deux éditions uniques en Amérique du Nord.     Spin to Win – Quarterly Report – April to June 2015 Work completed to date: Design and implementation of the Virtual Assessment Tool (VAT): The VAT will enable assessment and tracking (approximately 600 athletes who are 4-8 years prior to bench mark performance) on a set skills curriculum. All curriculums are confirmed and have been loaded into the VAT. Development phases 1 & 2 of the VAT are now complete with Phase 3 – delivery and implementation about to take place. Development of pathways for the ‘Spin to Win’ athlete: Coordination of the ‘Spin to Win’ project by Bree Bryant has continued in this second quarter of the project. During the Australian Gymnastics Championships in May the Pathways team presented two Pathways Forums, which were open to everyone in the gymnastics community – including parents, coaches, judges and managers. The presentation included information on the FTEM model, Spin to Win, Team Future, Virtual Assessment Tool, with Q&A at the end. In the April GA Latest News newsletter the Pathways team included information about the Spin to Win project, the GA Latest News is distributed to every affiliated club in Australia. Further development of the ‘Flip into Gymnastics – Fly anywhere’ concept. GA Pathways have now developed ‘Spin to Win’ giveaways for children who attend Talent ID initiatives and events, including a ‘Flip into Gymnastics, and fly anywhere’ bumper sticker, ruler, stress ball and highlighters.     Spin to Win – Quarterly Report – July to September 2015 Work completed to date: Design and implementation of the Virtual Assessment Tool (VAT): The VAT will enable assessment and tracking (approximately 600 athletes who are 4-8 years prior to bench mark performance) on a set skills curriculum. Phase 3 of the project – delivery and implementation has occurred and all 4 gymsports are utilizing the VAT. An education roadshow, led by the pathways team, travelled around the country in July/August 2015. The aim of the roadshow was to upskilled coaches/administrators on how to use the skills curriculum and the VAT. In the 3 months of use we now have 175 coaches from 92 clubs from all over Australia using the system. 650 gymnasts are registered, and over 350 have now begun submitting videos of their progress. Over 11 500 videos have been uploaded and assessed so far. We are now investigating sophisticated analysis methods so the data is most useful. Development of pathways for the ‘Spin to Win’ athlete: During the National Clubs Gymnastics Carnival in September the Pathways team presented two Pathways Forums, which were open to everyone in the gymnastics community – including parents, coaches, judges and managers. The presentation included information on the FTEM framework, Spin to Win, Team Future, Virtual Assessment Tool, with Q&A at the end.     Coomera Indoor Sports Gymnastics - Centre (CSC) Artistic Sport History Gymnastics – Artistic Origins and the sport today: Dating back to the ancient Olympic Games, Friedrich Ludwig JAHN (GER) formulated the first set of rules for group- based exercise in the early 19th century. Today, the sport is governed by the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). Artistic gymnastics was part of the first Olympics of the modern era in Athens in 1896, while the first FIG Gymnastics World Championship took place in Antwerp in 1903. Today, the 148 affiliated federations worldwide have a combined members total estimated at about 50 million, with almost 6000 licensed to compete at the elite level. The sport took on a much higher profile when Nadia COMANECI (ROU) and Nellie KIM (URS) scored perfect scores of 10 at the Montreal 1976 Olympics. Judging has also evolved, with judges separated into D (difficulty) and E (execution) panels in order to mark the content and quality of each display – a panel of reference judges (RJS) is also on hand. Artistic gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games: Artistic gymnastics is an optional sport at the Commonwealth Games, meaning it is up to the host federation to decide whether it should be on the program. Artistic gymnastics has been part of the Commonwealth Games since Edmonton 1978, although it was not at the Brisbane 1982 and Edinburgh 1986 Games. In the all-around discipline, Max WHITLOCK (ENG) is the defending Commonwealth Games men’s champion, along with his English compatriots in the team event. Both men’s and women’s events consist of team and individual all-around competitions.
