Cameroon:NW/SW WASH Update

Highlights Needs

 In June, WASH partners in North West(N/W) and South West(S/W) regions 690k People in need of WASH reached over 65,500 individuals with services in NW/SW WASH services including COVID-19 prevention activities. 414k Targeted

 WASH partners (AFRINET, IRC and 1 ReachOut) facilitated access to clean 679k IDPs water to over 14,400 individuals through provision of household aqua-tabs in the 52 S/W region. WASH partners

 CUAPWD, IRC, NRC and SUDAHSER $9.5m distributed complete WASH kits and required for WASH assorted WASH items to 23,200 $9.5m individuals in S/W region.

 NRC and REACHOUT completed construction of emergency latrines that

will benefit 1,750 people in división $0.2M

WATER  In sub-division, Mezam, Street Child installed 15 hand-washing stations that will benefit 1,500 people.  During the reporting period, AFRINET supported formation of four Water user Committees in , Kupe- Manenguba division.  In Fako, and , IRC distributed aqua-tabs to households in Bamuso, , Ekondo Titi, , 1 and 3 sub-divisions to the benefit of more than 1,500 people. ReachOut also distributed aqua-tabs to over 6,200 individuals in Limbe 3, Fako division while AFRINET provided aqua-tabs to 520 people in Nguti, Kupe-Manenguba division.

HYGIENE  WASH partners (CUAPWD, IRC, NRC, SUDAHSER) distributed complete WASH kits and assorted WASH items to over 23,200 individuals in Fako, , Meme, Mezam and Ndian divisions of N/W and S/W regions.  AFRINET and ASWEDO provided training on the use of dignity

hygiene kits to 760 women and girls from (Kupe- Education on how to prepare a 0.5% and 0.05% chlorine solution for disinfection of surfaces and hand-washing for Mangenguba) and Bamenda 2 (Mezam) sub-divisions. Photo by NRC.  Sanitation and hygiene promotion sessions conducted by AFRINET, CAMGEW, GCR, IRC, NRC and SUDAHSER in Bui, Fako, Kupe-Manenguba, Meme, Mezam, Kupe-Manenguba and Ndian divisions reached 8,800 people.

SANITATION  In Limbe 3, Fako division of N/W región, REACHOUT constructed emergency trench latrines that will benefit 750 people.  AFRINET and CHAMEG conducted community clean-up campaigns in Tombel and Buea sub-divisions of Kupe-Manenguba and Fako respectively. Almost 400 people benefitted from the campaigns.  During the reporting period, NRC completed the construction of 50 emergency latrines in and Likomba communities of Fako division. The latrines will benefit 1,000 individuals. COVID-19  In June, WASH partners, (AFRINET, CAMGEW, CHAMEG, H4BF, IRC and NRC) reached over 16,500 people through COVID-19 sensitization sessions conducted in Fako, Meme, Mezam and Kupe-Manenguba divisions in S/W and N/W regions.  SUDAHSER, with support from the government of Canada, LUKMEF and REACHOUT, trained 10 health workers in Bamenda

GAPS/Challenges • Insufficient funding to implement WASH cluster response plan. • Implementation of activities is taking more time than planned because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. • With the ongoing rainy season, remote areas will become harder to reach due to impassable roads.
